CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION

This research is all about in effectiveness of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) on

Grade 11 EIM students in PNHS to acquire the knowledge, attitude and for sustainable

development. The effectiveness of PPE on Grade 11-EIM Students is based on the production of
goods and services that are not only relevant for themselves but or the society. Stated that the

aquisition life long knowledge skillls calls for effectiveness and efecient teaching proper using of

PPE to appropriate evaluation methods and utilization af standard teaching materials, tools and

equipment to ensure the jobs of Grade 11-EIM with practical skills. Other requirements include

training and exailability of qualified teachers experience, could be suitable motivated in

effectiveness of PPE on Grade 11-EIM students in PNHS, posted that one of the philosophies of

accupational educations is progmatism which stresses practical skill acquisition of level of

education. For this achieve amore serious approach of instruction and exposure are desired to

improved their own skills in effectiveness of PPE on Grade 11-EIM students.

The purpose of this study is to know the effectiveness of a proper uses of personal

protective equipment (PPE).To aviod the kinds of risk and accedents that envolves the student

agains health or safety risk at work. From the situation of our class right now of Grade 11

Electrical Installation and Maintenance of Senior High students. I think really such a big thing to

give attention in this problem of lock of enough skills and performance in our specialized

subject, because this is what we are doing to do aomebody if we ever survived from studying

school to collage . Our aituation motivated or incourage me to this research on how we can over

come this issue to prevent this failure on our studies.

Review Related Literature

According to Tanko and Anigbugo (1992) PPE defined in the UK Regulations as all equipment
(including clothing affording protection against the weather) which is intended to be worn of
held by person at work and which protects him against one or more risk to his health or safety
e.g. safety helmets, gloves, eye protection, high visibility clothing, safety footware and safety
awareness.

According to occupational health and safety Council OSHC (2001)PPE is an important means
of preventing work injuries and should only be relied upon as a last line of defence in places
where it is hot practicable to control the hazard at source.

According to Taylor (2011),construction is a particularly dangerous and high. Risk industry,

according for more than 2,800 work-related deaths in the UK over the past 25 years alone. Hong
Kong is also notorious for her high construction accidents refutes. Although the accident rate
dropped from 350 per 1000 workers in mid 1980 to 60 per 1000 workers in 2007,it still
accounted for nearly 20% of all the industrial accidents in Hong Kong (construction site safety
ind.).
Review of Related Studies

According to McPherso and Shamis (2007) give account of history of development of

personal protective equipment, which initially fucosed on protecting the worker. Later fucos
shiffed to worker comfort to functionality and performance issues, and finally to style issues. By
mid century, advance in glove style and compound dippind were complemented by production
innovations designed to improve cost and quality. In addition to improvements in cut resistance,
this area saw the development of coated gloves with texture finished to meet grip
requirements.

According to Joel (2007) protective devices are designed to interposed an effective barrier
between harmful or environment. Personal Protective Equipment meet the following
requirements before it is considered adequate. It should provide. Maximum provide comport
and minimum weight compitable with the protective efficiency. It should ensure adequate
production from hazard to which the worker will be exposed.

According to Taylor (2011), if the item of protective clothing are uncomfortable and slow
down workers, then they are less likely to wear it, which increases the probability of accident
and heightens the risk that they will suffer a costly lapse injury. On the other hand, if clothes fit
property and do not impede the wearing ability to do thier job, they are much less likely to
suffer a costly lapse in concentration or make a properly selected potentially lethal mistake. The
PPE should be swited to do environment and properly selected for the individuals and taste.
Readily available, clean and functional, correctly used when require and, maintained by
appropriately staff of accordance with personal protective equipment maintenance and
servicing program.

Research Design

This research used correlational to measure that indicates the extent to which two or more
variables are rise and fall arregularly in number or ammounts together. A positive correlation
indicates the extent to which those variables increase or decrease in parallel. And the negative
correlation indicates the extent to which one variable increase as the other decreases. So that
we used the correlational to collect information regarding to effectiveness of PPE in grade 11
EIM students in PNHS. Quantitative research was used to find study with odequate and accurate
interpretation and findings. This method involved range from the survey.

Respondent

The research respondents is from the senior high school grade 11 students of electrical
installation and maintenance we choose the 30 students of grade 11 EIM students for being a
respondents for our survey we conduct because of there strand and track is related in our topic
PPE. And they enough knowledge to understood the effectiveness of PPE.

Instrument

The instrument we use are survey questionnaire. This instrument is the set of survey paper
or questionnaire was conducted for the EIM students respondents.

Validity and Reliability

With the gathering of data consult the researcher with thier advisor some who specialized in
the field of researcher, as well as those who have enough knowledge of statistics to validate the
questionnaire the result of the questionnaire on the stated problem learning above all giving
interpretation of the outcome of the study.

Statistical Treatment

The following statistical treatment were used by the researchers to answer the specific the
problem. A statician teacher was engaged to ensure that processing of data was dare property
result were analyzed and summarized in order to draw conclusion and make recommendation.

PRESENTATION, ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION OF DATA

In this chapter,
analysis and

interpretations of the data collected on the research regarding the preferences of the respondents
on Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) based in the survey questionnaire is presented. The
information and data gathered are presented so that it is easy and properly interpreted to discuss
the thoughts and data contained by the respondents.

Presentation of Data

This is described according to different ideas: 1)Profile of the respondents A. Age, B. Gender,
C. Year ; 2) What are the preference of the students A. Strongly Agree , B. Agree, C. Dis-Agree ;
3) Is there significance difference between

SUMMARY, CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION

This chapter presents the summary of findings; the conclusions made and the
Recommendations offered.

Summary

This study was conducted in Pamukid National High School, San Fernando, Camarines Sur,
with a total of thirty respondents of students from Junior High School to Senior High School.
Descriptive method was used in this study. The researcher used a checklist-questionnaire method
in order to reveal the preference of the students.

The special problem was conducted to determine the the possibilitis. It aims to find out the
appropriate answers to the following questions: 1) Profile of the respondents: A. Age, B. Gender,
and C. Year. 2) What are the preference of the students: A. Strongly agree , B. Agree C. Dis-agree
3) Is there any significant difference between Personal Protective Equipment? 4) Is there any
significant benefits of using Personal Protective Equipment?

Through this problems stated, the researcher came up with the following null Hypothesis HO:
there is no significance between Personal Protective Equipment as a substitute for personal
protective equipment HA: there is a significance between using personal protective equipment.

HO: there is no significant benefit of using Personal Protective Equipment.

HA: there is a significant benefit of using Personal Protective Equipment.

After administering the questionnaire, the researcher used percentaging and graphical
representation to determine the profile of the respondents: A. Age, B. Gender, and C. Year. The
preference of the students: A. Strongly agree,B. Agree, and C. Dis -agree Significance difference
between personql protective equipment. Significant benefits of using personal protective
equipment.

Conclusions

Based on the data gathered the respondents are inside of 17 years old to 18 years old age
bracket. 60% of the respondents were males and the remaining 40% were females. The students
came from Grade 12.

In terms of preference of the students when it comes to used personal protective equipment,
the result is students prefer proper using of personal protective equipment. Students who are
strongly agree made up of 66% while in agree made up of 33.33%. In dis agree is made up of
0%.

Through the test of significance of Personal Protective Equipment the researchers came up
with the conclusions; there is a significance of Pesonal Protective Equipment as a substitute for
accidents and there is a significant benefit to avoid cause of accidents. The numbers state that
substitute for Personal Protective equipment because if we are about to combine the number of
respondents who answered satisfied and very satisfied it shows that 90% of the population of the
respondents are accepting the idea that Personal Protective equipment can be a substitute to
avoid accident.
