Introduction

The 5’s or also known as the Safety Standard is a safety precaution or rule,
it is implemented in any sort of work, school and even daily basis. The “s”
within the 5’s means (Seiri, Seiton, Seiso, Seiketsu, Shitsuke) Sort, Set in
Order, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain.

In Congressional Integrated High School Senior High School, there are a


lot of strands wherein EIM or also known as Electrical Installation Maintenance
are one of it. 5’s or Safety Standard are used by the Electrical students for their
actual output where they do their installation, that way they can avoid the
accidents and they can learn the proper way of cleaning the environment of
their workplace. However, not only the EIM students are using 5’s the Safety
Standard has a wide use of safety where all strands, works are using 5’s.

The first mean of 5s is Sort(Seiri) sorting to all items in a loacation


and removing all unnecessary items from the location. And the second is
Set In Order(Seiton) putting all necessary items in the optimal place for
fulfilling their function in the worplace. The third Shine(Seiso) sweeping
or cleaning and inspecting the worplace, tools and machinery on a regul
ar basis. And the last is Standardize(Seiketsu) standardize the processes
used to sort, order and clean the workplace.

Research Problem

The research problem of this study is thay why is there still a cause of
accident even if the 5’s is already applied, what is the actions that the students
did when the incident occured and how this problem will be solved accordingly.,

Research Objective
To Determine the cause of the accident despite the use of Safety Standard,
to inform the students the proper use of 5’s, to make the students learn how to
avoid the occurance of accident.

The researcher must give a knowledge and inform the students that 5’s is
important in our daily works.

To achieve the minimize of accident rate of students because the other


student isnt take care
to their work

Significance of the study

The significance of the research is to give information about the mishap


despite the use of safety standard, this research will be valuable to the school,
students and teachers. This will help the misuse and occurance of accident
despite the use of 5’s to be prevented in the future, thus this research will help
to give a huge information about the use of safety standards to all.

Scope and Limitation

The scope of this research is only for the grade 11-12 students of Electrical
Installation Maintenance, the research will be done through online interview
wherein we will ask the respondents. The researchers limitation is that the
researcher can only ask the proper respondents, this will help to follow the
proper rules of the research that it shall not be bias.

Definition of terms

5’s - Safety Standard (Seiri, Seiton, Seiso, Seiketsu, Shitsuke) Sort, Set in
Order, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain.

Actyal outpiut - performance task of students.


Joints Wire - The way of connecting wires

Mishap - Accronym for mishappening or an accident

Safety precaution - reminders of being safety.


Related Studies

The literature and studies cited in this chapter tackle the different concept,
understanding, and ideas, generalization or conclusions and different
development related to study of the determining the mishap using 5’s. Those
that were also included in this chapter helps in familiarizing information that are
relevant and similar to the present study.

Local Studies

Republic Act 11058, signed by the President on August 17, seeks to “ensure
a safe and healthful workplace for all working people by affording them full
protection against all hazards in their work environment.”

The law mandates employers, contractors, and subcontractors to provide


workers a place of employment “free from hazardous conditions that are
causing or are likely to cause death, illness, or physical harm to workers.”

Employers are also required to give complete job safety instructions or


orientation to all workers, inform them of the hazards associated with their
work, use only approved devices and equipment for the workplace, and comply
with occupational safety and health standards, including training, medical
examination and, where necessary, provision of protective and safety devices.

Based on Abs cbn news afffair Occupational accidents and diseases cause
human suffering and loss. Their economic cost is high, with some 2 million
workers dying each year from work-related accidents and diseases, and the
figure is on the increase in spite of efforts to make inroads.

The Philippine Government estimates that 2.2 million Filipino workers in


medium and large enterprises enjoy effective occupational safety and health
(OSH) protection and services. In other words, 17 of 18 persons in the nation’s
workforce of 38.8 million do not benefit from acceptable working conditions.
Studies substantiate that OSH conditions in micro-firms and the informal sector
pose risks and hazards.

Foreign Studies

Base on Wikipedia the describes how to organize a work space for efficiency
and effectiveness by identifying and storing the items used, maintaining the area
and items, and sustaining the new order. The decision-making process usually
comes from a dialogue about standardization, which builds understanding
among employees of how they should do the work.

Two major frameworks for understanding and applying 5S to business


environments have arisen, one proposed by Osada, the other by Hirano. Hirano
provided a structure to improve programs with a series of identifiable steps,
each building on its predecessor.

According to Creative Safety Supply the 5S is a systematic form of visual


management utilizing everything from floor tape to operations manuals. It is not
just about cleanliness or organization; it is also about maximizing efficiency and
profit. 5S is a framework that emphasizes the use of a specific mindset and tools
to create efficiency and value. It involves observing, analyzing, collaborating, and
searching for waste and also involves the practice of removing waste.

Pioneered by Toyota Motor Company, the 5S method applies standard


housekeeping practices in the workplace through the five principles of Sort
(seiri), Set in order (seiton), Shine (seiso), Standardize (seiketsu), and Sustain
(shitsuke).

Methodology

Research Design
etermine the effects of mishap to students of EIM. The research design is
phenomenology where the researcher give an idea about experience of the
respondent person to provide a solution of their experience. The phenomenology is
a study of the development of human conciousness and self awareness as a preface
to or a part of philosophy.

Sampling Method

The researchers was selecting a sample from Congressional Integrated High


Schoool Grade 11 students. The students of Grade 11 are those people who are
studying Electical Installation and Maintenance that experienced mishap in their
actual work.

The researcher must use Purposive sampling that selecting sample of a relative
students of EIM according to purpose the research. The individuals was selected as a
part of the sample due to good their evidence that they was represented by the total
population of Grade 11 EIM students.

The researchers are used the online survey on selected students of EIM students
to meake the Data collection easier and less time will be spend.

Target Informants

The researchers was selected and limited to EIM 11 and 12 students because we
are expect this strand is have a knowledge about our topic on 5s.

2. What part of 5’s you think that you have not applied during your actual/output?

3. What are the importance of the safe standard?

5. Is it possible that you will get mishap/accident even you was applied 5’s on your

DATA ANALYSIS

QUESTION 1

 What kind of accident has accured despite your use of 5’s?

5 of the EIM students from Grade 11-12(Respondent 1, 3, 6, 9 and 10) was


answered the question of having an occured accidents to their actual work. 5 of
them (Respondent 2, 4, 5, 7, 8) was answered that they are not experience an
accident to their work.

QUESTION 2
 What part of 5’s you think that you have not applied during your actual/output?

4 of the EIM Student of Grade 11 - 12 (Respondent 2, 3, 8, and 9) were sustain is


not applied of them because mostly of causes is they can’t do it. 3 out of 10 of EIM
students are didn’t do sort. 1 out of 10 of EIM student was didn’d do ser in order in
their 5’s. 1 of students of EIM was mostly not applied safety to his work and 1 of
students of EIM was have accessories to his body when working.

QUESTION 3

 What are the importance of the safe standard?

8 of EIM students (Respondent 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9) was answered to


pwevent the hazard, injury, incident and accident to their work. 2 of EIM students
(Respondent 2 and 10) waas answered for safety purpose or to ensure the safety of
the works.

QUESTION 4

 How will you apply safety standards to your work?

6 of EIM students respondent (3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8) answered that safety


standards will apply using 5’s. The respondent 1 and 2 was asnswered that simply
and follow all safety measures and standards.

The repondent 9 was answered that using ssafety tools and equipment and
safety knowledge, and the 1 of EIM students of Grade 11 - 12 (Respondent 10) was
answered that doing properly and follow to instruction accordingly

QUESTION 5

 Is it possible that you will get mishap/accident even you was applied 5’s on your
work?
Agree:

8 of EIM student of Grade 11- 12(Responded 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10) were


answered that ir is possible to get mishap even was applied 5’s and most of their
answer is accident happen everytime and still not obey the safety standard

Dis-agree:

2 out of 10 of EIM students Grade 11 - 12 (Respondent 2 and 8) said no and


they didn’t mention the reason.

Discussion

Overall essence of finding

There are positive effects but there is still some negative effects on their
experiences despite using 5’s.

 The positive effect to EIM students from despiting 5’s to their work is the
prevention of accident and to clean their work. This motivation can solve
the problem from being lazy of person.

 The negative effects is forgetting the safety as to their work and it causes
accidents to their actual work and the output of yout work will be not well.

Conclussion
This study is to acknowledge the experiences of Grade 11 - 12 EIM students on
determiningthe cause of mishap despite using 5’s. The results of this study shows the
positive and the negative experiences of each student from being on an accident. It
also shows the effect of the occurance of accident on their experience towards when
they are working.

SUMMARY

The purpose of this research is to determine why is there still a mishap despite
using the 5’s, in this research the researchers have gathered the information that’d
lead to the answer which is that the students are not really applying the safety
standards properly. Hence, the gathered info showed that there are still only few
that are not applying the safety standard accordingly.
RECOMMENDATION

Therefore, we recommend to the EIM 11-12 students of Congressional


Integrated High School Senior High School SY: 2018-2019. That, always follow the
safety precaution in order to maintain the balance, safety, of the working
environment towards both students, teachers and the school itself. They shouldn’t
hesitate on doing the, proper use of 5’s because it is applied also for their own safety
and have a proper expirience on their work.

RECOMMENDATION OF FURTHER RESEARCH

This study is focused on the attitude and actions of the students, on their
workplace and environment. Both teachers, students and workers will benefit the
study, thus this will help the school and the other researcher that’d come up with
the same study to help them improve and analyze this recent study. Also, this
research is only from grade 11-12 EIM students of Congressional Integrated High
School Senior High School SY: 2018-2019.
