Efficient Use of Paper Rule

Effectivity: January 1, 2013 after publication in two newspapers of general circulation in


the Philippines.

Application: all courts and quasi-judicial bodies under the administrative supervision of
the Supreme Court.

Format and Style:


a. Spacing:
- single space
- 1 and 1/2 space between paragraphs
b. Font:
- Easily readable font style
- Font size 14
c. Document Size:
- 8.5” X 13” while bond paper
d. Margin:
- Top: 1.2”
- Bottom: 1”
- Left: 1.5”
- Right: 1”
e. Every page must be consecutively numbered

Copies to be filed:
- SC division: 1 original and 4 copies and two sets of annexes (one attached to the
original and an extra copy
- SC en banc: 1 original and 10 copies, and two sets of annexes (one attached to the
original and an extra copy
- In CA and Sandiganbayan, 1 original and 2 copies with their annexes
- In CTA, 1 original and 2 copies with annexes
- In CTA en banc on appeal, 1 original and 8 copies with annexes
- Other courts, 1 original with annexes

Annexes be served on adverse party


- A party required by the rules to serve a copy on the adverse party need not enclose
copies of those annexes that based on the record of the court such party already
has in his possession. In the event a party requests a set of the annexes actually
filed with the court, the part who filed the paper shall comply with the request within
five days from receipt.

In what documents will this apply?


- All pleadings, motions and similar papers intended for the court and quasi-judicial
body’s consideration and action (court-bound papers)
- All decisions, resolutions and orders issued by courts and quasi-judicial bodies under
the administrative supervision of the Supreme Court shall comply with these
requirements.
