Introduction including overview of area inspected and activities taking place

Qatar Foundation – Education City carrying out annual university event at the Green Spine –
Zone 3 like every year, inclusive of a stage construction at the arena this year. This report follows a
workplace inspection to identify significant hazards and risks at Green spine to ensure a safe and
secure environment. An estimated 7 hours long stage construction and instalment of light and sound
equipments will take place. 48 workers will work accordingly to complete the task. The area is
surrounded by water front zones on 3 sides. The only access to the site will be continuously used
during the task.

Heavy equipments like cranes and man lifts are not allowed within the arena fearing the damage it
may cause to the landscape and irrigation. All the required equipments for the stage, light and sound
instalment will be downloaded at the entrance and then moved to their respective locations. This
process does increase the hazards in case of manual handling. This inspection is done taking previous
year’s risk assessments and after event reports in consideration.

Executive Summary

The Landscaping, irrigation and housekeeping departments are indeed doing a great help to the
workers by provision of facilities with a high standard. Whatsoever, the inspection helped to identify
some serious hazards. Heavy equipments moving through the university pathways to access the zone
– 3 entrance, manual handling of heavy weight stage material/equipments, using electrical
equipments at the site and many other hazards that are not visible to naked eye. Testing fire throwers
and smoke blowers for stage performances are other activities to have a potential to cause harm.

Having well trained competent workers will help to complete the task with a safe and secure
environment.
Recommendations are to provide workers with adequate training, increasing the number of workers
and using trolleys to reduce or eliminate the risks from manual handling. Proper PPE for the workers,
and pre inspected electrical and hand held tools to be used by competent workers. One serious issue to
be resolved at the site is the water bodies around the arena. This can be done by putting up a fence or
barricades in order to separate or segregate the work zone from the water front area to eliminate the
contact of water and electricity.
