Iceland is a part of Europe.

It belongs to Scandinavia along with Norway, Sweden, Denmark and


Finland. Before gaining independence in 1918 Iceland belonged to the kingdom of Denmark. Cultural
similarities between the two countries (and the rest of the Nordic countries) are still strong to this
day.

English is taught as a second language in Iceland and almost every Icelander speaks the language
fluently. And more so, most Icelanders speak several other languages including Danish, German,
Spanish and French and welcome the opportunity to practice their language skills

Iceland´s rich supply of water is by far its most valuable natural resource. Not only is the quality of the
drinking water exceptional due to an abundance of unspoilt mountain and glacier streams, but
Iceland also has a long history of using geothermal energy as a source of power
