RE: Everett location false advertisement re: gift wrapping, 10/11/19.
Date: October 17, 2019

Dear Mark J. Tritton,

I have been a committed and long-time shopper for your company for over ten years. Bed Bath
and Beyond has been a store that I could always count on for bridal and baby shower gift
wrapping for my friends and loved ones. This is what brings my whole gift registry shopping
experience all together. I am writing to you today because I want to share my not so stellar
experience with you that I encountered at the Everett Washington location earlier this month.

My friend had registered at Bed Bath and Beyond for her recent bridal event, and with that, I
received a small size card (made by your company) that was included in my friend’s invitation.
On that card had a note that was typed at the bottom in fine print, “complimentary gift
packaging available in stores or available online for a nominal fee”. I was excited for the gift
wrapping service. My expectations were set high from other great experiences I had
encountered with my previous visits, only to find out that this was not the case when I walked in
on October 11th, 2019.

As I was checking out, I noticed that the usual gift wrapping section was not there as it always
has been. I began to ask the cashier where it was located or what had happened. She explained
that because it was complimentary, the company was making no profit in which the decision to
remove the gift wrapping section all together and stop providing the free service at all locations
arose. But this wasn’t even the most disappointing part of my trip to Bed Bath and Beyond.

At the bridal party the next day, I began telling everyone of my experience at the Everett
location. Everyone was shocked to hear the cashier’s response because ultimately, this was not
true. The other location just a few miles in distance (Lynnwood), did in fact have complimentary
gift wrapping as advertised. Many gifts there were wrapped in the same complimentary gift
wrapping paper that I have always used. As a loyal customer, I felt disappointed and misled by
the company. This is why I am reaching out to you today, to find a solution and/or outcome,
because I am sure that I am not the only one who has been misled and treated unfairly by this
advertisement on gift wrapping.

Each customer should be treated fairly in the same offer when it comes to complimentary goods
that a company provides, yet alone advertises. What I would like to see as a start, is a formal
apology from the company and yourself, to everyone in the Everett community who has
shopped at this specific store location. Following, a next good step would be to analyze the
business structure as a company team, specifically revolving gift wrapping and if the expense is
worth keeping for all locations. After that, determine if the advertisement should be removed
completely based off that marketing decision. I believe this will help establish fairness and any
other misleading/false advertisement in your company. As a devoted customer, it would be a
shame to see this company go down for such a small inconvenience.

Please feel free to reach out to me if you have further questions or concerns on this matter via
Twitter. Thank you for your time, and I hope to hear back from you soon.

Sincerely,
Angela Dikanova
