NEED FOR SWITCH IN TRACK

Typology :Transport Building - Railway station

Site : Tambaram Railway station,Chennai.

Reason for choosing the topic :

Urban integration
integrating the railway station and its adjacent urban mass
The urban spaces around the railway station provide excellent public areas and rationalise
functional needs due to the mass movement of people in the neighbourhoods.
Rethinking of public spaces is vital rather than creating new ones.
Railway stations are stuck in basic facilities over 100 years of time, they dont serve the
current and future urban context. They can be the platform for a better public space of
tommorow enhancing an increase in public transporation users.
IRSDC," Stations should be better than airports".
“Historically railway stations have been around for much longer than airports.
Railway stations tend to be built in urban centers, around which cities have then developed
and developing. This obviously hasn’t happened with airports that have been built outside
of urban areas. Hence retaining the basic imageability and services of the stations is
important for public participation and redevelopment.

Site Justification

and need for change . It is the major sub urban people transit point connecting it corridor
to millions of people. Having 9 platforms in which 4 serving sub urban routes and rest 5
