NORWAY

Norway is a European Country off the western coastline of Europe. Oslo is the capital of
Norway. Norway is a Scandinavian country, introduced salmon sushi to the Japanese, and in
2008 knighted a penguin. in addition dying in Longyearbyen, Norway is illegal because the
town’s small graveyard stopped accepting bodies 70 years ago after finding out that the body's
weren’t decomposing. The surrounding countries of Norway are Sweden, Finland, Russia, and
Denmark.

Norway became a country in 870 AD. Famous people from Norway include Alfred
Nobel, norway Nansen, and Roald Amundsen. World War II, an epidemic of plague killed half
the people of Norway from 1349 to 1350, Norway became independent in 1905, and in 1967
Norway began its greatest welfare program are important events in Norway's history. Norway
was in a union with Denmark from 1380 until 1814 and when the union ended, Norway wrote its
own Constitution. Later in 1814, Norway entered into a new Union with Sweden which ended in
1905. Norway then chose its own king, Prince Carl of Denmark, who later became King Haakon
he 7th. King Haakon the 7th became the first ruler of Norway after its independence. Norway has
been a country for 1144 years.

Norway is known for its geography. The Scandinavian mountains is the donated range.
Folgefonna Glacier is the largest glacier in Norway and Hardangerjokulen Glacier and
Jostedalsbreen Glacier are two major glaciers in Norway. The most significant fjord is
Boknafjord. Other major fjords in Norway are Geirangerfjord, Hardangerfjord, Moldefjord,
Sognefjord, Vestfjord, and Trondheimsfjord. Famous landmarks in Norway are Akershus
Fortress, Bryggen Village, National Gallery in Oslo, and Urnes Stave Church. The largest lake in
Norway is Lake Mjosa. The longest river is Glama River. The Norwegian Sea is west of
Norway. Gulf of Skagerrak, Bygdoy Peninsula, and Sognsvann Lake are some other bodies of
water. Noah has many cities and some major cities are Tromso, Hell, Stavanger, Alta,
Trondheim, Lillehammer, Volda, Bergen, Oslo, and Andalsnes. The geography in Norway is said
to be beautiful.

The weather in Norway is dramatic and changes fast. The typical degrees in the winter is
-44 degrees Celsius and in the summer it is 17.2 degrees Celsius.61 millimeters is the average
yearly rainfall. The average yearly temperature is 7 degrees Celsius. In the Scandinavian
mountains the tree lines have markedly shifted to higher elevations due to the weather. In the
warmer seasons, plant life has become significantly more frequent. The weather in Norway is
drastic and changes often.
The population of Norway is 5, 207, 689. Norway has a monarchy government which
means a king or queen is Head of State and there is a royal family. The people of Norway has
freedoms including freedom of speech, assembly, religion, and pressed similar to the United
States. Prominent Industries in Norway are building and construction, tourism, petroleum,
shipbuilding, engineering, nursing, and retail. Norwegian Krone is the currency in Norway.
Natural resources are gas, oil, copper, lead, timber, petroleum, fish, and aluminum.
Manufacturing areas are aircraft, cement, chemicals, Motor Vehicle, motorcycle, pharmaceutical,
Rolling Stock, and Sporting Goods. Urban areas, agriculture, open areas, forest, shore zone, and
the wilderness is the land use in Norway. Norway has many uses because of their lands.

The culture in Norway is interesting. The languages spoken are Norwegian,


Bokmal, Nynorsyk, Sami (lappish), and English. Men wear a shirt, tie, casual pants, and sweaters
or pullover. Women wear skirts or pants, blouses, and often a scarf. It is considered rude to not
dress appropriately in public. The traditional music is folk. Popular genres are Blues, Country,
Dansband music, electronic and dance, hip hop, jazz, pop, rock, folk metal, gothic metal, and
death metal. Holidays would include New Year's Day, Easter (Thursday - Monday), Labor Day
(May 1), Constitution Day (Syttende Mai; May 17), Christmas (December 24-26), Holy
Thursday, Good Friday, Ascension, Whitmonday, St. John’s Day (June 24) St. Olav’s Day (July
29), and United Nation’s Day (October 24). Soup, meat or fish, potatoes, vegetables, and dessert
is what Norwegians usually eat for dinner. For breakfast they typically have cereal, and bread
with cheese or jelly. Open-faced sandwiches are eaten for lunch or late evening supper. Farm
families eat as many as five meals a day. City families normally eat four meals a day. Norwegian
enjoy spending time outdoors. They especially loved to ski, hike, sail, and swim. Every child
between the age of 7 and 14 must attend school. Some cities do allow 16 year olds to not go to
school. There are more than 3,500 primary schools in Norway with nearly 600,000 students.
About 1000 secondary schools have an enrollment around 180,000 students. More than 100
universities, colleges, and vocational schools have an enrollment of 69000. Typically universities
are located in Trondheim, Oslo, Bergen, and Tromso. Norwegian culture is different than most
cultures.
There are many fascinating facts about Norway. All prisoners have internet in their jail
cells. Food stores cannot be open unless the store has a special permit. However, restaurants and
movie theaters are usually opened. The cheese slicer was invented in Lillehammer, Norway.
Norway is considered to be the most peaceful country and one of the wealthiest countries. “Odd”
and “Even” are common male names. Norway means “path to north”. There are as many
descendants from Norway residing in the US as there are Norwegians residing in Norway,
especially in the state of North Dakota, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. About 8.2% of people in
Norway eat tacos every Friday. People in Norway can only buy alcohol from stores called
Vinmonopolet. There is not a lot of the stores in each city, and there is none in countryside
towns. The country ranked least likely to be affected by climate change is Norway. Texas is
slang for crazy in Norway. Norway is a very intriguing country.

To conclude, Norway has a rich history, gorgeous geography, radical climate, stable
economy, and riveting culture. Norway's original founders are vikings. Norway is an enormous
country and with Denmark and Sweden they make up Scandinavia. In addition, Norway is also
known for the Seven Sisters waterfall, linked to the Geirangerfjord in Geiranger, Norway.
Norway is a beautiful country because of its history, geography, climate, economy, and culture.
