1.1 Glossary

The following table introduces the concepts involved in the network scheme that are
required before the network scheme is introduced.

1.2 Network Scheme

The UNM2000 network schemes include: single-server system (Windows) on a


physical machine and single-server system (Windows) on the cloud platform of a
virtual machine.

Single-Server System (Windows) on a Physical Machine

The UNM2000 server is deployed on the physical machine; the UNM2000 client and
NE communicate with the server through the DCN. Figure 1-1 shows the network in
which the single-server system (Windows) is deployed on a physical machine.

Single-Server System (Windows) on a Virtual Machine

The UNM2000 server is deployed on the cloud platform of a virtual machine; the
UNM2000 client and NE communicate with the server through the DCN. Figure 1-2
shows the network in which the single-server system (Windows) is deployed on the
cloud platform of a physical machine.

1.3 System Configuration Requirements

The following introduces the hardware configuration requirements of the UNM2000


server end and client end.

1.3.1 Hardware Configuration Requirements

This section introduces hardware configuration principles for the server and client.

Hardware Configuration Requirements of the Server

Table 1-2 describes the hardware configuration requirements of the server. The
hardware configurations of the virtual machine are recommended to be the same as
those of the physical machine.

Hardware Configuration Requirements of the Client

The minimum hardware configuration requirements for the client are described as
follows:

u CPU: Intel i3-2120 (2 cores) 3.3 GHz or above

u Memory: 8 GB

u Hard disk: 500 GB + 7200 rpm + SATA

1.3.2 Software Configuration Requirements

This section introduces the software configuration requirements of the UNM2000


server end and client end.

Table 1-3 describes the software requirements for the computer running the
UNM2000 server end and client end.

1.4 Precautions

This section introduces the precautions for installation and commissioning.

u Use UPS power supply to avoid loss of network management data caused by
accidental power failure.

u One server can be installed with one set of UNM2000 network management
system only.

u The computer case, UPS power supply and switch (or hub) should be
connected to protection earth ground.

u To avoid program conflicts, an operating system incompatible with the


UNM2000 version must not be installed.

u The UNM2000 software should be installed only in an operating system with


simplified Chinese or English language, and cannot be installed in an operating
system with other languages.

u Do not visit Internet via the network management server. Doing so may
increase data flow in the network card and hence affects normal network
management data transmission.

u Do not modify the network management server’s protocol settings, computer


name or LAN settings. Doing so may result in abnormal operation of network
management system.

u To shut down the network management server, exit the operation system
normally and then shut off the power supply.

2 Installation Process

This chapter introduces the process for installing and commissioning the standalone
system (based on Windows).

u Figure 2-1 shows the flow for installing the server end.

Note:

The installation process of the UNM2000 server includes the installation


of the database software. If the system is already installed with a
database, check whether the database meets the EMS installation
requirements. If not, uninstall it and then reinstall the database.

3.1 Installation Preparation

This section introduces the preparations before installing the UNM2000 server,
including installation information collection, prerequisite software check and
hardware connection check.

3.1.1 Planning the Installation Information

Before installing the UNM2000, you should collect the necessary installation
information including the host name, IP address, time zone, username and
password.

Note:

The planning examples in the following tables are only for reference. The
planning information should be specified according to the actual
conditions.

Caution:

Both the username and password are case-sensitive.

3.1.2 Checking Prerequisite Software

Before installing the UNM2000 server end, check whether the necessary software is
prepared and meets the installation requirements. The UNM2000 server end is
installed with the software package, which should be prepared before installation.

Note:

The UNM2000 server end supports Windows 2008/2012 R2 Standard


operating system. The Windows 2012 R2 Standard operating system is
recommended.

3.1.3 Checking Hardware Connections

Before installing the UNM2000, you need to install and connect the hardware, and
check the correctness of the hardware installation and connections.

Prerequisite

The server has been installed and the device cables have been connected.

Procedure

1. Check whether the power cables and earth ground cables of components are
reliably connected with correct polarity.

2. Check whether all cables are properly bound and free of damage to their
sheath.

3. Check the hardware connections and network cables according to the


hardware connection diagram.

Figure 3-1 shows the hardware connection diagram of FiberHome SSG-6028R-


E1CR12H server.

Connection description: The server is configured with two network ports (eth0
and eth1), which correspond to the database network card and the device
network card respectively.

4. Check the plugs and sockets.

1) The buckles of cable plugs should be securely connected.

2) Check whether the sockets have missing, bent or shorted pins.

3.2 Powering on the System

This section uses the FiberHome FitServer R2200 V4 server as an example to


introduce the procedure of powering on the server and the location of the power
button (skip this section in case of deployment in the cloud environment).

Procedure

1. Power on the server.

2. Press down the power buttons of the external device and monitor of the server
to power them on.

3. Wait for two to three minutes, and then press down the power button on the
panel of the server to power it on.

shown in the red rectange in Figure 3-2.

3.3 Configuring System Parameters

Before installing the database and UNM2000, you should set the parameters of the
operating system to ensure the successful installation and normal operation of the
database and UNM2000. This section introduces the related operations by using
Windows2012 R2 system as an example.

Note:

You must log into the operating system as an administrator so as to set


the operating system and install the UNM2000 system.

3.3.1 Configuring the Host Name

This section introduces how to set the system host name.

Background Information

To ensure the normal operation of the UNM2000, the host name must be set in line
with the following principles:

u The host name of the EMS server should be unique in the network.

u The host name should be a character string containing no more than 15


characters, and should be a combination of letters (A to Z, a to z), numerals (0
to 9) or hyphens (-).

u The host name should not be a number.

u The first 15 characters of the host name must include a non-numerical


character at least.

Procedure

1. Select →Control Panel→System and Security→System, and click


Change Settings to open the System Properties dialog box.

2. On the Computer Name tab, click Change to open the following dialog box. In
the Computer Name text box, enter the new computer name in the format of
UNM+number, for example, UNM123.

3. Click OK. The following prompt dialog box appears.

4. Click OK to go back to the System Properties dialog box.

5. Click Close to open the system restart alert box. Click Restart Now and wait
for the system to restart.

Note:

After the host name is set, do not change it any more. Otherwise, the
UNM2000 may not be able to operate normally.

3.3.2 Configuring the IP Address

It is advisable to assign an IP address to the UNM2000 server according to the


installation planning.

Procedure

1. Select →Control Panel→Network and Internet→Network and


Sharing Center, and click Change adapter settings to open the Network
Connections window.

2. In the Network Connections window, right-click the Ethernet0 network card,


and select Properties from the shortcut menu.

3. Double-click Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) to bring up the following


dialog box.

4. Set the properties of the Ethernet0 network card according to the earlier
planning information.

5. Set the properties of the Ethernet1 network card by referring to steps 2 to 3.

6. In the Network Connections window, click Organize→Layout→Menu bar to


display the menu bar.

Note:

If the menu bar is already displayed in the Network Connections


window, skip this step.

7. In the Network Connections window, select Advanced→Advanced Settings


from the menu bar.

8. On the Adapters and Bindings tab of the Advanced Settings dialog box, set
the sequence of the database network card Ethernet0 and the device network
card Ethernet1.

Note:

As the priority of the database network card is higher than that of the
device network card, the database network card Ethernet0 is above the
device network card Ethernet1.

3.3.3 Configuring the System Language

This section introduces how to configure the system language.

Procedure

1. Select →Control Panel→Clock, Language, and Region→Region to


open the Region dialog box.

2. On the Formats tab, select the desired language from the drop-down menu of
Format.

3. Select the Administrative tab, and click Change system locale. In the
displayed dialog box, select Chinese (Simplified, PRC) and click OK to go
back to the Administrative tab, as shown below.

4. Click OK.

3.3.4 Configuring the Time Zone and Time

Set the time zone where the EMS server belongs as per the planning, and set the
date and time of the EMS server according to the local standard time. Incorrect
setting of the time zone and time may influence the collection and reporting of
device performance data by the EMS.

Procedure

1. Select →Control Panel→Clock, Language, and Region→Date and


Time to open the Date and Time dialog box.

2. On the Date and Time tab, click Change time zone.

3. In the Time Zone Settings dialog box that appears, select the time zone where
the site is located and click OK.

4. On the Date and Time tab, click Change date and time.

5. In the Date and Time Settings dialog box that appears, set the date and time
according to the local standard time and click OK.

6. In the Date and Time dialog box, click OK.

3.3.5 Configuring the Username and Password

It is recommended that you configure the username and password of the UNM2000
server according to the planning data.

Procedure

1. Select →Control Panel→User Accounts→User Accounts→Manage


another account, and click Add a user account.

2. In the Add User dialog box, set the parameters such as the username and
password according to the prompts in the GUI, and click Next.

3. Click OK to complete adding the new account.

3.3.6 Configuring the Remote Access

During the UNM2000 installation, the server system is accessed remotely. This
section introduces how to configure the remote access.

Note:

Before configuring the remote access, you should set the system
username and password. For details, see Configuring the Username and
Password.

Procedure

1. Select →Control Panel→System and Security→System→Remote


settings to open the System Properties dialog box.

2. On the Remote tab, click Select Users.

3. In the Remote Desktop Users dialog box that appears, click Add.

4. In the Select Users dialog box that appears, enter the username(s) to be
added.

5. Click OK to complete the settings.

3.3.7 Configuring the Firewall

To ensure the security of the system, the system firewall has strict limit on the
access to the system ports. In order to use the UNM2000 normally, you need to
allow the UNM2000 to access specific ports.

Procedure

1. Select →Administrative Tools to open the Administrative Tools


window.

2. Double-click Windows Firewall with Advanced Security to display the


Windows Firewall with Advanced Security window.

3. Select the Inbound Rule or Outbound Rule in the left pane and click New
Rule in the right pane to display the New Inbound Rule Wizard or New
Outbound Rule Wizard dialog box.

4. Select Port and click Next.

5. See External Service Ports to select the corresponding protocol, enter the port
number and click Next. The port 3306 is used as an example to introduce how
to add an inbound rule.

6. Select Allow the connection and click Next.

Before installing the UNM2000, you need to configure the static route according to
the network status so as to ensure normal network communication in case that the
network is unstable.

3.11 (Optional) Configuring the NAT Conversion


Background Information

In case of co-management by the UNM2000 and OTNM2000, when the UNM2000


server communicates with devices by converting the device management IP
address using the NAT method, the IP address converted through the NAT should
be added into the configuration files of the OTNM2000 and delivered to related
devices along with management programs. Meanwhile, the converted IP address
should be added to the UNM2000 manager so that the UNM2000 can manages the
devices normally.

The UNM2000 supports the following NAT mode:

4.2.1 Configuring the Host Name

This section introduces how to set the system host name.

Background Information

To ensure the normal operation of the UNM2000, the host name must be set in line
with the following principles:

u The host name should be unique in the network.

u The host name should be a character string containing no more than 15


characters, and should be a combination of letters (A to Z, a to z), numerals (0
to 9) or hyphens (-).

u The host name should not be a number.

u The first 15 characters of the host name must include a non-numerical


character at least.

Procedure

1. Select →Settings→System→About and click Rename this PC.

2. In the displayed dialog box, enter the new computer name in the format of
UNM2000Client+number for example, UNM2000Client01) and click Next.

1. Select →Settings→Time & Language→Date and Time, and click


Additional Date, Time & Regional Settings to open the Clock, Language,
and Region window.

2. Click Set time and date to open the Date and Time dialog box.

3. On the Date and Time tab, click Change time zone.

4. In the Time Zone Settings dialog box that appears, select the time zone where
the site is located and click OK.

When the UNM2000 communicates with devices via the DCN, you should configure
a GNE group by referring to the GNE settings on the OTNM2000, so as to avoid
service interruption caused by gateway failure.

Prerequisite

u You have the authority of Operator Group or higher authority.

u The NE has been created.

Background Information

The GNE group directly or indirectly connects to the UNM2000 through the
management network interface (DCN). A GNE coupled with its connected NE
constitutes a management domain. The OTNM2000 accesses the NE of the
management domain by way of the GNE of the management domain.

Procedure

1. Select Configure→NE Communication Route Management to open the


Communication Routing Management tab.

2. Right-click GNE Group Management and select Create GNE Group from the
shortcut menu.

3. In the Create GNE Group dialog box, set the GNE group name and GNE
group member (i.e. binding the MA NE).

Division

As the authentication data of the OTNM2000 are not imported into the UNM2000
along with the configuration data, the authentication data should be manually added
to the UNM2000 by referring to the authentication data of the OTNM2000. This
section introduces how to set the authorization and domain division.

Prerequisite

You have the authority of Operator Group or higher authority.

Background Information

According to the original authority and managed objects of a user, configure the
corresponding authority and managed objects for the user on the UNM2000. If the
UNM2000 is only used for co-management (not used for any delivery operations),
all users' control commands that could change device statuses such as activation,
modification or deletion should be disabled.

Procedure

1. Select Security→NMS User Management from the main menu to open the
NMS User Management tab.

2. Set the authentication data as required in User Group.

5.7 Setting Performance Collection Tasks

You can view the performance history only after the performance collection task has
been created.

Background Information

In case of co-management by the UNM2000 and OTNM2000, you need to set the
performance collection task on the UNM2000 by referring to the performance history
filtering information on the OTNM2000, so as not to collect the performance code
already filtered on the OTNM2000. In this way, the performance history information
queried via the OTNM2000 and UNM2000 is consistent.

Prerequisite

The PAS service UnmPasNode is started.

Procedure

1. Select Performance→PAS Collection Task Management from the main


menu to open the Collection Task Management tab.

2. Right-click Collection Task and select Create Collection Task from the
shortcut menu.

3. Set Basic Information and Collection Object & PM-Code in the Create

You can set alarm flashing shielding rules to shield certain alarms and improve
alarm processing efficiency.

u When the interval between the alarm report time and the previous alarm
clearance time is shorter than the specified period, the alarm is defined as a
flashing alarm.

u The UNM2000 discards the alarms meeting the alarm flashing shielding rules
rather than displaying them or saving them in the database.

u Uninstalling the database is not recommended when you uninstall the

after the UNM2000 is uninstalled. Otherwise, some data files cannot be
deleted.

u It is advisable to manually back up the files in the directory D:\UNM2000


\emsback to a directory other than the UNM2000 installation directory.

which will result in loss of EMS management and monitoring over NEs and
deletion of EMS database.

Failure Description

After the server is installed, initializing the MySQL database succeeded but the PAS
service node is not started.

Possible Reason

The PAS and UNM2000 bus of the original UNM2000 version are separated. This
new version integrates the PAS and UNM2000 bus and the PAS NODE service is
not completely uninstalled when the new UNM2000 version is used to uninstall the
original one.

Procedure

1. Access the Services list and view whether PAS_Node service is deleted.

b) Right-click the PAS_Node service item and select Properties from
