Introduction Eligibility Selection Process Exam Pattern
❑ The Staff Selection Commission conducts the Combined Graduate Level Examination for
filling up of various Group “B” and Group “C” posts in different Ministries/Departments of the
Government of India.
❑ The Staff Selection Commission has its Headquarter at New Delhi. The Commission is an
attached office of the Department of Personnel and Training, Ministry of Personnel, Public
Grievances and Pensions, Government of India.
❑ For information on the posts that will be filled up through CGL 2019, number of vacancies,
physical requirements and the types of physical disabilities permissible for these posts,
please visit the SSC website.
Nationality/Citizenship
A candidate must be either:
1) a citizen of India, or
2) a subject of Nepal, or
3) a subject of Bhutan, or
4) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India, before the 01 January 1962 with the intention of
permanently settling in India, or
5) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African

Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (Formerly Tanganyika and
Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently
settling in India.
The candidate belonging to categories (2), (3), (4) and (5) above must have a certificate of
eligibility issued by the Government of India.
The process of filling online application for the examination consists of two parts:
❑ One-time Registration - The candidates are required to register only once on the
Commission’s website using basic details, contact details, scanned image of passport size
photograph and signature. They will be issued ‘User ID/Registration Number’ and ‘Password’
which they can use in various examinations conducted by the Commission.
❑ Filling of online Application for the Examination - The online application process for
Combined Graduate Level Examination 2019 is now closed. It was open from 22 Oct 2019 to
25 Nov 2019.
Examination fee
The CGL 2019 examination fee is Rs. 100 for male candidates of the General and OBC
categories. Women candidates and candidates belonging to SC, ST, PwD and Ex-servicemen
categories are exempted from payment of the examination fee.
Admit card
All candidates who register by the closing date and time and whose applications are found to be
in order and are provisionally accepted by the Commission, will be assigned Roll numbers and
issued Admission certificate for appearing in the Computer Based Examination (Tier-I). The
Admission certificates will be issued online on the SSC website.
Exam Pattern
The Combined Graduate Level Examination is conducted in four tiers as indicated below:
❑ Based on the marks scored in Tier-I examination, candidates will be shortlisted, category-
wise, to appear in Tier-II and Tier-III examinations.
❑ Based on the aggregate performance in Tier-I and Tier-II Examinations, candidates will be
shortlisted for evaluation of Tier-III Examination.
❑ Based on the aggregate performance of qualified candidates in Tier-I, Tier-II and Tier-III
❑ Tier-I and Tier-II consist of objective Type, multiple choice questions only. The questions will
be set both in English and Hindi except for English Comprehension in Tier-I and Paper II
(English Language and Comprehension) in Tier-II.
❑ In Tier-I there will be negative marking of 0.50 for each wrong answer.
❑ In Tier-II, there will be negative marking of 0.25 for each wrong answer in Paper II (English
Language and Comprehension) and negative marking of 0.50 marks for each wrong answer
in Paper I, Paper III and Paper IV.
❑ In Tier-II, Paper I and Paper II are compulsory for all the posts.
❑ In Tier-II, Paper III (Statistics) will be for only those candidates who apply for the posts of
Junior Statistical Officer (JSO) in the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation
and Statistical Investigator (Grade-II) in the office of Registrar General, India (M/o Home
Affairs) and who are shortlisted in Tier-I for these Posts.
❑ In Tier-II, Paper IV (General Studies - Finance and Economics) will be for only those
candidates who apply for the posts of Assistant Audit Officer/Assistant Accounts Officer and
who are shortlisted in Tier-I for these posts.
