Established the Yale Clinic of child development.
He believed that a child’s behavior develops in a patterned predictable way.
First described the behaviors that emerge in children at each chronological
age.
Gessel Developmental schedule
First published in 1925.
The oldest and most established intelligence measures of infants and
young children.
The study focused on the various stages of developing and how they
unfolded over time.
This is more concern with diagnosis and evaluation of abnormalities than
attainment of various milestones.
Four major areas of developmental:
Motor
Cognitive
Language
Personal social/Adaptive
Gessel Developmental observation-revised
Is a comprehensive multi-dimensional system that assists educators, and
other professionals in understanding characteristics of child behavior in
relation to typical growth patterns between 2 ½ to 9 years of age.
The results of GDO-R provide information regarding a child’s unique
developmental and educational needs.
The information portrays the child’s strengths as well as areas that may
need additional support.
The results provide with a deeper understanding of the child’s
developmental age which then provides direction for differentiated
instruction.
The results of GDO-R reveal a child’s overall Developmental Age and
Performance Level Ratings in each of the four domains at a point in time.
