1. describe the propagation of light,
2. differentiate the wave model of light and particle model of light and
3. explain the photon theory of light.

Corpuscular (or particle) theory of light by Isaac Newton
-stated that light consisted of particles that travelled in straight lines.

Wave theory of light by Christian Huygens


- Huygens argued that if light were made of particles, when light beams crossed, the particles would collide and cancel each other. He
proposed that light was a wave.

Electromagnetic theory of light by James Clerk Maxwell


-combined electricity, magnetism,and light.

Quantum theory of light


-combines the two major theories of light, suggesting that light does not always behave as a particle and light does not always behave
as a wave.
