Descriptive text merupakan sebuah text dalam bahasa inggris yang digunakan untuk
menggambarkan suatu objek dalam bahasa inggris.
Generic Structure Descriptive Text
Identification : Yaitu berisi penggambaran secara singkat mengenai objek yang akan kita
amati
Description : Yaitu berisi deskripsi mengenai objek yang kita amati.
Contoh :
Borobudur Temple
Borobudur is Hindu - Budhist temple. It was build in the nineth century under Sailendra
dynasty of ancient Mataram kingdom. Borobudur is located in Magelang, Central Java,
Indonesia.

Borobudur is well-known all over the world. Its construction is influenced by the Gupta
architecture of India. The temple is constructed on a hill 46 m high and consist of eight step
like stone terrace. The first five terrace are square and surrounded by walls adorned with Budist
sculpture in bas-relief. The upper three are circular. Each of them is with a circle of bell shape-
stupa. The entire adifice is crowned by a large stupa at the centre at the centre of the top circle.
The way to the summit extends through some 4.8 km of passage and starways. The design of
borobudur which symbolizes the structure of universe influences temples at Angkor,
Cambodia.

Narrative text merupakan sebuah text yang berfungsi untuk menceritakan sebuah kisah di
masa lampau dan bertujuan sebagai hiburan.

Orientation : Yaitu berisi pegenalan cerita yang akan di angkat, pengenalan tempat dan tokoh
dalam cerita.
Complication : Yaitu berisi kisah yang terjadi pada cerita tersebut. biasanya juga ditandai
dengan munculnya sebuah konflik dalam cerita.
Resolution : Yaitu babak akhir pada cerita yang biasanya ditandai dengan selesainya sebuah
konflik dalam cerita
Coda : Pada bagian ini terdapat kesimpulan dalam cerita.

True Friends
Once upon a time, there were two close friends who were walking through the forest together.
They knew that anything dangerous can happen any time in the forest. So they promised each
other that they would always be together in any case of danger.
Suddenly, they saw a large bear getting closer toward them. One of them climbed a nearby tree
at once. But unfortunately the other one did not know how to climb up the tree. So being led
by his common sense, he lay down on the ground breathless and pretended to be a dead man.

The bear came near the one who was lying on the ground. It smelt in his ears, and slowly left
the place because the bears do not want to touch the dead creatures. After that, the friend on
the tree came down and asked his friend that was on the ground, “Friend, what did the bear
whisper into your ears?” The other friend replied, “Just now the bear advised me not to believe
a false friend”.

3. REPORT TEXT
Merupakan sebuah text dalam bahasa inggris yang berisi mengenai sebuah informasi yang
disajikan dalam bentuk tulisan. Informasi tersebut bisa tentang apa saja yang terjadi.

General Classification : Berisi klasifikasi secara umum mengenai sesuatu yang akan kita
laporkan.
Description : Pada bagian ini penulis mulai mendeskripsikan apa yang sebenarnya terjadi.

Many people call platypus duckbill because this animal has a bill like duckbill. Platypus is a
native Tasmania and southern and eastern Australia.

Platypus has a flat tail and webbed feet. Its body length is 30 to 45cm and covered with a thick,
and
woolly layer of fur. Its bill is detecting prey and stirring up mud. Platypus' eyes and head are
small. It has no ears but has ability to sense sound and light.

Platypus lives in streams, rivers, and lakes. Female platypus usually dig burrows in the streams
or river banks. The burrows are blocked with soil to protect it from intruders and flooding. In
the other hand, male platypus does not need any burrow to stay.

4. RECOUNT TEXT
Recount text merupakan sebuah text dalam bahasa inggris yang berfungsi untuk menjelaskan
cerita di masa lalu. Oleh sebab itu, recount text berbentuk past tense atau lampau.

Orientation : Yaitu berupa paragraf pembuka dari suatu text, biasanya berisi pengenalan
terlebih dahulu.
Events : Yaitu mulai menceritakan peristiwa atau pengalaman apa yang sudah dialami.
Reorentation : Yaitu berisi kesimpulan terhadap sesuatu tersebut.

Last summer I got a fantastic holiday. I visited some great places. I Went to an airport and was
going to fly to Cleveland. I was spending there two days. I liked to see some Cleveland
Cavaliers basketball matches.

Then I went to Hollywood. Hollywood is a famous district in Los Angeles, California, United
States. It had become world-famous as the center of the film industry. Four major film
companies – Paramount, Warner Bros., RKO and Columbia – had studios in Hollywood. I did
not want to leave but I had to.

After that, I went to New York city. I visited the Statue of Liberty. I went from the bottom of
Manhattan to the top of the crown. That was very amazing. The places made me feel at home
but I have to go home. Next time I would return to them.

5. PROCEDURE TEXT
Procedure text merupakan sebuah text dalam bahasa inggris yang berfungsi untuk
menjelaskan cara atau tahap membuat sesuatu baik benda atau yang lainya.

Aim : disini penulis mulai memaparkan tujuan dari proses pembuatan sesuatu tersebut.

Evaluation
The initial package of the product is round bowl made of thick plastic with tight cap on top of
it. The colour of the package is green. There are two large round stickers containing the name
of the product and also the elements or ingredients of the product on the cap and on the bottom
of the package. The initial package contains 300 ml of the aloe vera gel. Currently, this product
is also available in the form of tube which contains 250 ml of the gel.
Interpretation
The original package of the product is too large to be brought in a trip, but we can solve it by
having the tube version instead of the bowl version. The description of the product on the
sticker is in Korean, so it may not be friendly for users from other countries such as Indonesia.
The texture of the gel allow us to use just a few of it every time we want to apply it to our skin,
so it is very economical. The combination of alcohol and also spearmint extract has made the
fragrance of aloe vera from the gel to be strong, it may be relaxing and fresh for some users
but may also be uncomfortable for others.
Summary
This product is very good for our skin, it can help us to nourish our skin so we can have
beautiful, glowing and healthy skin. The price may seems expensive, but as we only need to
take small amount of it when we use it, it is going to be worth it. Users with sensitive skin may
want to be careful in using the product because it contains alcohol.

Suddenly to my horror, a snake's head appeared in the plug-hole. Then out slithered the rest
of his long thin body. He twisted and turned on the slippery bottom of the bath, spitting and
hising at us.

Reaction/Incident
For an instant stood there quite paralyzed. Then I yelled for my husband, who luckily came
running and killed the snake with handle of a broom Anna, who was only three at the time,
was quite interested in the whole business. Indeed I had to pull her out of the way or she'd
probably have leant over the bath to get a better look!

Coda
Ever since then I've always put the plug in firmly before running the bath water.

Nowadays, the video games industry is developing rapidly. It becomes a multi-billion dollar
industry. Video games have become an important part not only in the children’ life, but also in
the adults’ life. Nevertheless, there is an argument whether video games bring good or bad
influences on children.

People who have a pro argument claim that video games give a lot of benefits, playing video
games is a good way to kill children’s boredom. It can refresh the children’s mind after a tiring
school day. Moreover, they also argue that video games can trigger children to be more creative
because the games provide challenging ways to win. In other words, they believe that the video
games can actually sharpen a human’s brain.

Conversely, some people believe that video games make children lazy. They argue that playing
video games is addictive. As a consequence, most of the children prefer playing video games
to studying. These children find it hard to concentrate on their study because they always think
about how to spend more time playing video games. In fact, there are also some children who
skip their extracurricular lessons, just because they want to play video games. In addition, most
of the video games often expose too much violence. Two years ago in the USA, for example,
a student shot his teacher and some of his friends. Newspapers said that the boy was deeply
influenced by the actions in the video games he used to play with.

It is obvious that video games have more disadvantages than advantages. Therefore, parents
should be very careful in selecting the appropriate games for their children.
