What Are The Research Objectives?
In general, research objectives describe what
we expect to achieve by a project.
Research objectives are usually expressed in lay
terms and are directed as much to the client as to
the researcher. A statement of research objectives
can serve to guide the activities of research.

guide the activities of research.
What Are The Research Objectives?
 Research objectives describe concisely what the
research is trying to achieve. They summarize the
accomplishments a researcher wishes to achieve
through the project and provides direction to the study.
A research objective must be achievable, i.e., it must
be framed keeping in mind the available time,
infrastructure required for research, and other
resources.
6 Golden Rules in Writing Research
Objectives
1. They should be presented briefly and concisely
2. They should be presented in logical sequence
3. They should be realistic (e.g., achieved within the
expected timeframe, achieved within the available
resources)
4. They should be phrased in operational terms (i.e., in a
way that brings the organization closer to its
business objectives)
6 Golden Rules in Writing Research
Objectives

5.They should use action verbs that are specific

enough to be evaluated or measured (e.g.,
assess, determine, compare, verify, calculate,
describe)
6.They should be static once the study work begins
(i.e., objectives should not be moving targets)
Scope and Limitation

Scope and Limitation of the Study

Scope refers to how far the research area has explored

and parameters in with the study will be operating in.
The type of information to be included in the scope of a
research project would include facts and theories about
the subject of the project.
Guidelines in writing Scope
1.A brief statement of the general purpose of the study.
2.The subject matter and topics studied and discussed.
3.The locale of the study, where the data were gathered or the
entity to which the data belong.
4.The population or universe from which the respondents were
selected. This must be large enough to make generalizations
significant.
5.The period of the study. This is the time, either months or years,
during which the data were gathered.
Scope and Limitation of the Study

Limitations , also known as the bounds, are influences

that the researcher cannot control. They are the
shortcomings, conditions or influences that cannot be
controlled by the researcher that place restrictions on your
methodology and conclusions. Any limitations that might
influence the results should be mentioned.
Guidelines in writing Scope and Limitation

1. General purpose
2. Population or sample
3. Time or duration
4. Subject matters and topics discussed
5. Area or locality
Definition of Terms

Definition of Terms

An alphabetical list of important terms or

acronyms that you define, particularly
ambiguous terms or those used in a special
way.
Definition of Terms
An alphabetical list of important terms or
acronyms that you define, particularly
ambiguous terms or those used in a special
way.
This is an important part of Research paper or report
is that in which the key or important terms in the
study are clearly defined.
Types and Functions

CONCEPTUAL
Is the universal meaning that is attributed to a
word or group of words and which is
understood by many people.
It is abstract and most general in nature. The usual
source of conceptual definition is the DICTIONARY
which is the reference book of everyday language.
Types of Definition of Terms

OPERATIONAL
 Is the meaning of the concept or term as used in a
particular study. Unlike the conceptual definition, it is
stated in concrete term in that it allows measurement.
 The usual practice when using both types of definition is
to state first the conceptual followed by the
operational.

Function

• It establishes the rules and procedures the investigators will

use to measure variables
• It provides unambiguous meaning to terms that otherwise
can be interpreted in different ways.
