BASIC PRINCIPLE OF TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION

In brief, the following are basic principles of technology education:


1. Technology education must be planned to support and enhance the socio-
economic development goals and programs of the country.
2. Technology education must be designed to meet diverse education and
training needs of people. It must provide general technology education,
technical and vocational education, undergraduate and graduate programs in
various technologies relevant to the country’s development.
3. Technology education is more effective if the students has adequate general
education to serve as foundation or tool to learn technical knowledge and
skills.
4. General technology education must equip people to acquire functional
technological literacy which is very essential in society.
5. Specialized technology education must prepare people for gainful
employment and or provide upgrading and continuing education and training
for those who are already employed.
6. Technology education must be so designed as to match the manpower needs
of the various sectors of the world of work.
7. Technical and vocational education institution must seek the cooperation and
participation of industry and other sectors with respect to policy formulation,
strategic planning, curriculum development, on-the-job training, and other
mutually beneficial efforts.
8. Technology education must contribute to the overall development of the
individual as an effective member of his family and society.
9. Technology education must be supported with adequate funds for operation
and maintenance upkeeping and improving facilities, and for instruction,
research and extension services.
10.Quality of technology education must be insured through effective admission
policies, curriculum improvement, faculty development, improvement of
facilities and logistics, instructional processes, testing and evaluation and
management systems.
11.Technology education must be supported with effective technology teacher
education programs which should include short-term technical/vocational
teacher training, pre-service teacher training leading to a baccalaureate
degree, masteral and doctoral programs.
12.Technology education must be implemented with adequate facilities
(classrooms, laboratories, equipment, tools, etc.) and logistics (instructional
supplies and materials).
13.Technology education must be carried out by professionally-trained teachers
with industrially and / or occupationally-related experience.
14.Technology education, to be effective, must keep abreast with new trends,
developments and technologies.
15.Technology education, to be effective, must be supported with research and
development.
16.Technology education must provide extension education for those who are
out-of-school, unemployed, underemployed and others who are desirous to
develop skills for employment.

BRIEF SUMMARY
EDUCATION is the most efficient system of equipping people with knowledge,
skills and attitudes essentials for effective membership in society. It consists of
general an specialized education which are acquired, through formal, non-formal or
informal schemes. A major sub-system of education dealing with the technological
aspects of the environment is technology education. It deals with the development
of technical skills, knowledge and attitudes needed to enter and/or progress in the
world of work or prepare people for productive and meaningful citizenship. In its
general form, technology education seeks to help people become technology-
literates and equips them with the basic skills, knowledge and understanding the
scope,materials,equipment, processes, products, problems, and development in the
world of work. In its specialized form, technology education seeks to prepare people
for work, either as skilled worker, technician, technologist, or technology teacher
and specialist.as such is offered in all levels of education in a broad spectrum of
programs and specialization to help address the country’s needs for various types
of technical manpower and provide broader educational opportunities for people
and greater flexibility in the development of the country’s human resources.
