What is immersion?

Immersion is the act of immersing of the state of being immersed

as complete involvement in some activity or interested. It is necessary for us to have an
immersion because it is a pre-requisite in our course in animal production.

The grade 12 students excluding the girls from Dante Luib Osano Maputi National
High School went to the MZ farm at New Balamban km. 64, Tagum City for our immersion
or OJT in agriculture major in swine and poultry production. The immersion last for one
month at MZ farm owned by Zaldivar Family. December 19, 2017, the grade 12 males went
to MZ farm together with Ma’am Calope and her husband. Before we entered to the farm, we
have to footbath for the prevention of the disease outbreak. Biosecurity was strictly followed.

On the first week of our immersion, Boss Matoy introduced to us the tunnel ventilated
poultry. He discussed the different rules and biosecurity to be followed. I was amazed of
what I saw, that was a tunnel ventilated poultry. I was wondering of how it generate. That
was the first time that I saw a tunnel ventilated poultry personally. On the next day, Ma’am
Teray, the daughter of the owner, divided us into four groups, the B1 upper,B1 lower, B2
upper, B2 lower. I was in the Bravo 2 upper group. In my group, here were Boknoy, Joe,
Dodong and Nolan.

December 23, 2017, at exactly 12:00 Am at night the 80,000 chicks arrived. We
placed the chicks inside the poultry for recounting and identifying the sickly and healthy
chicks. The sickly one will be rejected. We were able to scatter the chick feederer and also
we fed the 40,000 chicks manually. I haven’t sleep all night at that time because the work end
at exactly 4:32 am in the morning. The chicks will be harvested within 28 days if it will
reached the standard weight. Everyday, we fed the 40,000 chicks manually and with the use
of machine and we also collected the dead chicks. There were 110 dead chicks on December
24, 2017 that we collected. The floor of the poultry house was covered by a manila paper.
Within three days, the manila paper must be removed to prevent ammonia that may cause the
chicks to die.

December 26, 2017, we were able to expand the pen size or the space to make it
wider. . Every truck that will arrived and full of feeds, I and my classmates will be the one to
lift it. There were 250 sacks of feeds in every truck. Every four days, we will get the weight
of the chicks to know if it reached the standard weight. Furthermore, our daily work was
selecting the small, sickly and behind chicks and place it inside the medication pen in order to
have uniform size and growth. It was easy to administer the vitamins and medicine because
there are nipples which serve as there source of water. I was able to adjust the feeder line and
nipple line. All of the machine was controlled by the funnel board and I know how to operate
it.

Every feeder line has a sensor ender to stop the machine directly if the feeds scattered
well. Meanwhile, heater is the source of cool air. The exhaust fans minimized the odor
coming from the chicken dung. January 19, 2018, we started harvesting the chickens and
road them in the track but before that we got the weight first in order to know if it is ready to
harvest.
Generally, the broiler production end successfully and profitably. I have
learned a lot in my immersion at MZ farm even though I was tired of working but I enjoyed.
In our generation, I can say that our economic production is upgrading and very fast. With the
use of machines and well mechanized modernization. We have our new generation, so let’s
make the world a better place and a better living and enjoy in every work we have in our life
to achieve success.
