Lesson: Solves problems involving Conversion of Units of Measurement.

Grade Level: 7

Strand: Measurement

Content Standard: The learner demonstrates understanding of the key concepts of

measurement.

Performance Standard: The learner is able to formulate real-life problems involving

measurements and solve these using a variety of strategies.

Competencies Addressed: The learner solves problems involving conversion of units of

measurement.

Objectives: In this lesson, the learners are expected to:

1. Convert units of measurement using the English and metric system;

2. Solves problems involving conversion of units of measurement;
3. Relate concepts involving real-life application of conversion of units of
measurement;

Instructional Procedure:

A. Presentation of Problems:
Beverly is a native from Dingras and now currently teaching at Pinili. Every day
she drives her motorcycle from Dingras to Pinili with an average speed of 60
kph. How many minutes will it take for the motorcycle to reach the school which
is 40 km away from her house?
B. Presentation of Answers for the Entry Activity
I. What is the best representation that we can make out of the
problem?
II. What are the quantities involved?
III. What is the formula for solving distance related problems?
IV. How will you relate the speed to the time in traveling?
C. Processing of Answers
I. How do you make a visual presentation of the given problem
II. What measurements have been involved in the problem?
III. How to solve problems involving distance, speed and time
IV. Define the relation of speed, time and distance
D. Practice Exercises
Answer the following problems. Show your solution.
1. Geisha ran 42-km marathon which is held at their Municipal which is
conducted by MILO . She covered the first half of the marathon from 0600
hrs. to 0715 hrs. and stopped to rest. She resumed running and was able to
cover the remaining distance from 0720 hrs. to 0934 hrs. What was Geisha’s
average speed for the entire marathon?
2. Angelo stood at the edge of the cliff in Gudogod and shouted facing down.
He heard the echo of his voice 4 seconds after he shouted. Given that the
speed of sound in air is 340 m/s, how deep is the cliff in Gudogod?
3. Ms. Bueno left the house and travelled to Sacritan Integrated School with
an average speed of 40 kph. How many minutes will it take for the
motorcycle to reach the school which is 8 km away from the house
E. Summary
 How to measure the average speed as the quotient of distance over time
 Solve problems involving time, speed and distance.
F. Extension
Group yourselves into 5 groups having 10 members each group.
1. Each group will choose 10 normal students based from their BMI
from each grade level from grade 8 to grade 12.
2. They will let them run a hundred meter dash. After letting them
run they will record the time then get the average speed per
student then get the average speed per grade level.
3. Organize the data gathered using a table
4. Present it to the class.
5. Make a generalization in comparing the average speed of each
grade level.
