Traditional Career:
In the 20th century, which is also known as Industrial and Post-industrial era, industrial development
on the large scale just started. Invention of Assembly line by the Ford, Invention of Aeroplane by the
white brothers, Invention of Personal Computer and Internet are the best examples of that. Thinking
of the owner of the organisations are only for getting more and more profit without empowering the
employees & People must have to go at workplace for doing the work.

21st Century Career:

In the 21th century, Innovation like intelligent artificial, Internet, Robots, Autonomous vehicle, smart
phone, social media and computer has completely changed the definition of the career. Internet has
made it possible to work or communicate with each other from one end of the world to the other end
of the world. Owner of the organisations has started to empower the employees by required training,
providing the flexible timing to the employees etc.

Causes for the changes in the work environment:

There are so many different reasons for change in the work environments which are as follows.
1) Competitions in the business:
Day by day, Competitions are increases which results in the thin margin on the products and
constantly pushes for development of the new product to survive in the market.
2) Development of the technology:
Invention of the Internet has changed concepts of the work environments and make it
possible to work from the distance / work from the home.
3) Evolution of Artificial Intelligent:
Artificial Intelligent has make robots more intelligent than the human for doing specific tasks
in term of the accuracy, precision of the work.
4) High minimum Wages and Strict labour law:
As we know that Labour law becoming more and more complex with the increase in the wages
of the workers which results in the purchasing of the Robots for taking work.

Changing nature of the psychological contract:

Psychological Contract refers to the unwritten collection of the employee agreement which includes
mutual belief between employee and employer, Informal arrangement & perceptions between
employee and employer. Now a days, organisations are becoming more transparent with the
employees regarding their expectation discuss regarding work time, job expectation, pay schedule in
detail with their employees.

Impact of the Automation:

Invention of Internet and technology has massively changed the way of working. In the 20th century,
for doing each work in an organisation, Manpower is used for performing different tasks / functions.
In the 20th Century, Clerks and accountant used in bank for cash withdraw and receipt which are
replaced by ATM machine in the 21st Century. Also, Painters and Welders are used in the welding of
the body in the Automobile company which are placed by the Robots in the 21st Century. Manpower
is used for arranging all stuffs in the Warehouse / store in the 20th Century which are replaced by
robots and Automated Guided Vehicles in the 21st Century.

Impact of the Automation:

Organisations:
Every business is facing very hard competition in the global era from their competitors which results
in the less profit margin. Expectation from the customer regarding their product and service is also
becoming very high. Organisation has started to invest on the automatic machine, robots, systems
which can work accurately and efficiently and make them independent from the manpower.
Individual:
Employment is the biggest issue for the individual due to automation as the conventional job is
reduced or nearly closed and new jobs like online marketing, online business, online coaching has
started. Educated people has started thinking differently and adjusting with the change but
uneducated people are more impacted due to Automation.

Ans (3) :

In the 21st century, Automation, due to so many inventions in the field of Science and Technology has
completely changed the requirement of the qualities for the employability. Also, Traditional skills are
becoming obsolete and New skills are becoming more popular.

There are so many skills which haves demand in the market like creativity, adaptability, problem
solving, computer literacy, communication. According to me, Adaptability and Creativity are the 2
most important key characteristics / qualities of 21st Century careerist need to maintain employability.

Adaptability:

Adaptability refers to the adjusting with the change in action & approach smoothly with the
environment which may be working condition, technology, surroundings. It is indeed true that change
is the Law of the Nature and world is changing every day, hence person must need to adjust with the
change. This skill is natural and can be developed by observing the change in the environment, willing
to learn attitude within the time limit.

For Me, as a Mechanical engineer, Adaptability of a technology like cad software, simulation software
in the field of mechanical component design will help me to make my design more powerful and
realistic. Due to constantly increase in the competition in the field of employment as well as business,
adaptability with latest software empowers me to keep myself different from the other.

Creativity:

Creativity refers to an art of thinking something new which can be helpful to survive as well as keeping
competitors away from us. It is also found that many multinational organisations keep competitions
for encouraging the creativity of the persons. Creative thinking helps to develop new business as well
as process.

For Me, as a Mechanical engineer, Creativity means utilizing my theoretical knowledge for the
developments of waste management process, renewable source energy, develop new design which is
more efficient and economical which further helpful to the mankind.
