1. A circular disk rotating at 1800 rpm is applied upon by a constant breaking force until its
speed becomes 60 rpm, 10 seconds after the application of the force.
2. The four particles in the figure are connected by rigid rods of negligible
mass. The origin is at the center of the rectangle. If the system rotates in
the xy plane about the z axis with an angular speed of 6.00 rad/s, calculate:
6. A roller in a printing press turns through an angle θ(t) given by θ(t) = γt2 – βt3,
where γ = 3.20 rad/s2 and β = 0.500 rad/s3.
7. A uniform 255 N rod that is 2 m long carries a 225 N weight at its right end and an
unknown weight W toward the left end. When W is placed 50 cm from the left end of the
rod, the system just balances horizontally when the fulcrum is located 75 cm form the
right end.
a) Find W.
b) If W is now moved 25 cm to the right, how far and in what direction must the
fulcrum be moved to restore the balance?
11. At t = 0 a grinding wheel has an angular velocity of 24.0 rad/s. It has a constant angular
acceleration of 30.0 rad/s 2 until a circuit breaker trips at t = 2.00 s. From then on, it
turns through 432 rad as it coasts to a stop at constant angular acceleration.
a) Through what total angle did the wheel turn between t = 0 and the time it stopped?
b) At what time did it stop?
c) What was its acceleration as it slowed down?
