The Goalie’s Anxiety at the Penalty Kick

This book was written by Peter Handke, one the most important authors currently, and
winner of Nobel Prize 2018. This novel carried to his author to international
recognition in the critic’s world.
The author narrates about loneliness and the fear that everyone feels. Bosch, the main
character, is a retired goalkeeper, who was fired from his last job.
At this point, Bosch starts his path and he depicts us his story in a kind of confusing
language, where the different moments and events are narrated as cut short
imperative phrases.
Due to that, the lecture of the novel could provoke confusion in the readers. However,
is a short novel. Be patient
Handke writes innovatively and originally, using graphics in one little part of the whole
story.
Nevertheless, a grand part of literary critics rejects his award, due to his polemics and
controversial claims about the Yugoslavia war.
Hence, this is a great novel, and a good starting point to know the whole literary work
of Handke.
