The elective highlighted this Term is Public
public speaking
Speaking. This 2 term course is taught by Brother Ali

in efforts to prepare students to be efficient and

capable speakers who can back up their beliefs and
college tours arguments in an educated way. The students are
isom fundraiser asked to use different modes of persuasion (ethos,
name of allah pathos, logos) to build a strong argument in support
spelling bee of their viewpoint. An example of this is when they

educated argument against a team with the opposing

arguments and debate with another team who had

I am with him when he makes mention of Me. If he makes mention of Me to
himself, I make mention of him to Myself; and if he makes mention of Me in an
assembly, I make mention of him in an assembly better than it. And if he draws
near to Me an arm's length, I draw near to him a fathom's length. And if he comes
to Me walking, I go to him at speed.”

field trip
On the 24th of October, ISOM took the whole
school on an educational field trip to Charles
Deering Estate. Located on Old Cutler Road,
the massive 444-acre Deering Estate is an
archaeological, environmental, and historical
preserve.The estate is home to a large number
of wildlife and beautiful locations. The
students participated in many activities, some
of which were scat hikes and building wind
turbines. The students learned a lot about the
rich history of the place and the many animals
that reside there. This field trip was the first
school trip of the 2019-2020 school year and
Inshallah not the last. May Allah help make
our upcoming field trips just as beneficial.
college campus tours

Since the 2018-2019 school year, The
Islamic School of Miami has been taking
high-school students on several campus
tours, which included Miami Dade College
(MDC), Florida International University
(FIU), and University of Miami (UM). This
year, our current 9 and 10th graders will
be going to those colleges/universities as
well. They went to Florida International
University on February 5th, the University
of Miami on February 25th, and Miami
Dade College on March 4th. On these
tours, the students are given an inside look
of the campus, helping them become
familiar with the college environment.
Along with learning detailed information
regarding admissions, they are also able to
conveniently ask any questions they have. By
going to multiple colleges in the Miami area,
our High-School students can realistically
evaluate the pros and cons of each. As a
result, they are aware of the steps to take in
order to be college-ready and prepare for
their future. Alternatively, ISOM has also
provided insight for students interested in
studying Islamic higher education. Br. Yusuf
Sulaiman, who is studying higher education
in Islamic Studies, has personally visited the
school to provide insight to students who are
interested.

spelling bee

Alhamdulillah, the Islamic School of

Miami held our third annual Spelling
Bee on the 19th of December
(Preliminaries) and the 20th of
December (Finals). Kindergarten
through Middle School competed in
different grade levels for first, second,
and third place. Each winner was
awarded, and 4th place winners were
also recognized. For further details on

As the ISOM family, we are searching for ways to raise funds to support our school.

as-saboor: the patient

Allah (SWT) is The One with the most patience. He is The One who does not
quickly punish the sinner so that they can turn back to him and seek forgiveness.
Allah delays the punishment of a believer until after the sinner doesn’t repent. We
thank Allah for his patience with growing our school, Alhamdulillah.

annual fundraiser
On February 1st, ISOM held its 2019-2020 annual fundraiser event at the Mehfil Banquet
Hall. During this event, we had various different presentations by our students. Guests
were also given information about the school and the academic systems ISOM utilizes to
enhance each student’s learning experience. With arround 225 attendees, we raised a little
over $75,000 Alhamdulillah. Although many cash donations were received, a large portion
of it was pledged. If you have a pledge, please deliver it to the office at your convenience.
Mashaa Allah, a portion of this donation was gained from auctioned paintings hand-made
by our very own High-School students. These paintings sold from a range of $50 to an
incredible $700. We would like to show our deepest appreciation to everyone who attended,
and a very special thank you to those who donated money to our school.
