1970’s, but the setting for the greater part of
his story is the Pacific Ocean, specifically
along the equatorial counter-current which runs
Setting east to west along the equator. The last pages
are set in Mexico where Pi recovers from his 227-
day ordeal at sea.

Piscine Molitor Patel (Pi)

Pi is the main character/protagonist of the story. He is a teenage

Indian boy, son of a zookeeper. He practices three religions,
Christianity, Islam, and Hinduism. His faith and knowledge of
animal psychology help him survive 227 days at sea in a lifeboat
with a 450-pound Bengal tiger.

Richard Parker

He is the Bengal tiger that becomes Pi’s nemesis as well as his

reason for living. The tiger ended up with a human name as the
result of a clerical error where the name of the tiger, Thirsty,
and the name of his captor, Richard Parker, were accidentally
reversed.

Father (Santosh Patel)

Pi’s father is the owner/keeper of the Pondicherry Zoo. He teaches

Pi the finer points of animal care and control, along with respect
for the animals’ strength. He dies in the shipwreck.

Mother (Gita Patel)

Pi’s mother is loving and nurturing, especially in education. She

reads widely and shares her books with Pi. She dies in the
shipwreck, or, she may have had the role of the orangutan in Pi’s
second story.

Ravi

He is Pi’s older brother who loves to tease Pi. Unlike Pi, he is

popular and athletic. Nonetheless, the brothers are close. He dies
in the shipwreck.
Plot
Exposition- The story starts with Pi as he explains parts of his life
before and after his journey across the Pacific Ocean. He discusses
subjects such as academics, the zoo, and his life in India and
Canada. He also shares his thoughts on the behavior and
characteristics of animals, and he discusses the many religions he
follows. The setting is set in Pondicherry, Toronto, and Munnar.
Also, a few characters are introduced such as Pi, Ravi, Mother,
Father, Mr. Kumar, the priest, the imam, the pandit, and the
mysterious Richard Parker.

Rising Action- After selling their zoo, Pi, and his family set sail on
the Stimson to live in Canada. However, the ship sinks, and Pi is
stuck in a lifeboat with a zebra, hyena, orangutan, and tiger.
Each animal fights to survive, but the last animal left standing
beside Pi was the Bengal tiger named Richard Parker. Pi then tries
to avoid Richard parker until he finds a solution. He also makes
improvements to the lifeboat while finding a way to survive.

Climax- At last, Pi has figured out an effective and efficient way

to survive. Also, he no longer must fear Richard Parker. Pi has
asserted his authority over Richard Parker by continuous training.
Pi associate’s seasickness with the sound of his whistle. Richard
Parker now respects Pi.

Falling Action- Pi continues to fight for survival. He also continues

to cease any threats posed by Richard Parker. Pi eventually comes
across a blind Frenchman but Pi himself was also blind. Both were
suffering from blindness caused by the body's reaction to
dehydration and a lack of nutrition. The blind Frenchman climbs
aboard, possibly to attack Pi or befriend Pi, but he is immediately
eaten by Richard Parker. Pi also comes across a carnivorous island
of algae inhabited by meerkats. After collecting supplies, he
leaves the island with Richard Parker.

Resolution- Finally, Pi reaches land in Mexico, and Richard Parker

leaves without a ceremonial goodbye. People find Pi, and he is
taken into an infirmary. He is interviewed by people from the
Japanese Ministry of Transport, Mr. Okamoto, and Mr. Chiba.
However, they don't believe Pi's story. Pi tells another story
without animals, but the people represent the animals. It can also
be viewed that the animals represent the people, or the animals
represent emotions of Pi and the others.

amiss. I had my hair done because I was one of my best friend’s

hairdo was horrible.
Trying not to panic, I showed my problem to my younger sister.
My sister carefully evaluated the emergency with the intensity of
the chess grandmaster, added some chips, tried something more
hairspray and after weighing the whole situation, she called “a
spade a spade” and proclaimed that it was hopeless. I screamed,
slammed doors, threw chips around and thought about not showing my
face in the wedding.
Thankfully, my other sister arrived and transformed the
disaster into something more presentable and offered this piece of
wisdom – “Your hair is fine, forget about it and do you job as a
friend. She’s counting on you”.

Directions: Assume that you are a Youth Ambassador. You are going
to deliver a short speech about the “Role of Online Education in
the Modern Era” that discusses the importance of technology in the
modern times. You are going to write your speech in the template
provided. The purpose should be present in your speech.
On January 1, 1983 is considered the official birthday of
the Internet. A new communications protocol was established
called Transfer Control Protocol/Internetwork Protocol
(TCP/IP). And internet in the Philippines first became
available on March 29, 1994, with the Philippine Network
Foundation (PHNet) connecting the country and its people to
Sprint in the United States via a 64 kbit/s link. WiFi? It was
invented and first in the consumers in 1997.
So basically speaking, us people that been born in 21st
century internet does eventually exist and still improving and
expanding in our daily lives. It helps us big time especially
in communicating with other people and its very convenient than
writing letters to send to someone in other places or countries,
but I know that writing letters and receiving them is too cute,
sweet, and wholesome. Yet, me need to be practical and this is
the answer to that.
Now, we are having a worldwide problem, a pandemic, that
kills an estimated 1.47 million of life around the world. Even
if we are experiencing this problems or issues, as students
still needed to study. The answer to this was to have and attend
a school in the middle of pandemic. We know that going out and
to be around and stay in crowded people, the solution is to have
an online class where students can attend school without risking
their lives.
Now, most or some people might wander “why still have a
classes in this kind of situation right now?” On my opinion, why
not, right? It’s not that bad. Instead of staying at home doing
some useless stuff, because I know that there are some people
who just sit whole day with their phones on and not helping the
chores in their houses. It is actually good having online
education in this moment, so we won’t get a year left behind.
Hello? We are on a K-12 program, and still want to add a
year because we didn’t have any school in this year. I know
having it without any experience is hard especially to those
who do not have the facilities needed. I know, I’m no right
to say these things but I’m just expressing my point of view
in this situation we are right now. To those people who don’t
have the facilities needed, the government are giving as a
modules for free that you don’t need any internet to be use.
Just tell your parents that you want to study, and you can be
under the modular group rather being in online education. Just
have some commonsense.
