It is almost rare to find an individual who has not yet seen a Disney /princess movie.

 The well renowned

Disney films are often marketed to the younger audience. Parents even encourage these Princess films
because of the preconceived idea that supposedly shows positive characteristics and ideals from the
princesses. But how does the theme revolving princess culture generally affect children psychological
behavior?

Parents tend to believe that Princess Culture is safe (Coyne,2016), an initial impression most know as
there is no underlying issue that can be seen immediately. In the long-term effects however, princess
culture can leave a significant impact on a child’s character. A study shows that Disney princes culture
magnifies stereotypes in young girls. In the same study,198 preschoolers were assessed according to
their interaction with Princess culture, 96 percent of the girls viewed Disney princess media and 87
percent for the boys. Of these ,61 percent of the girls played with the princess toys at least a week and
only four percent of the boys. This shows that females of young age are significantly more affected by
this princess culture. They associate and relate to objects that they deem would make them more
feminine or more of a princess. More interactions with the princesses also showed an increased trend in
female gender stereotypical behavior thereafter. This behavior can become problematic if girls avoid
important learning experiences that aren't perceived as feminine and continue to just act according to
what they see in the in the Disney films. Several manifestations of these are observed when girls who
strongly adhere to female gender stereotypes feel like they can't do some things. Coyne also said that
they aren’t as confident in their technical skills and are less likely to experiment with new things to avoid
getting dirty.

These stereotypes however aren’t as worrisome for boys. It was shown that boys who engaged in Disney
princess media had better body esteem and were more helpful- suggesting a counterbalance for the
hyper masculine depiction of media that is traditionally presented to boys. (ei. pompous, brave and
excessively dominant).

The effects however aren’t limited to stereotypical behavior alone. it was also determined that girls who
have lower body esteem resort to watching more Disney princesses to seek out role models for what
they consider beautiful. They perceive the princess as the ideals and try to imitate them to appropriate
their insecurities, which if left unguided, might give them the misinterpretatation that women should act
the way princesses should- submissive, reliant on their princes and excessively delicate.
