Follow the instructions under “Format and Guidelines for Papers” in our syllabus. Write your full name (or full names in alphabetical order), student number(s), etc., in the upper left-hand corner of the first page. For the type of paper, write “Popular Culture Essay.” Create an original title for your essay. Do not make a separate title page for your essay. Your essay should begin below its title on the first page.
PAGE LIMIT: Your essay should be 5 to 8 pages long (roughly 1500-2000 words). This page count should not include the page(s) containing your list of Works Cited.
SOURCES AND LIST OF WORKS CITED:
Use at least four credible sources to support your arguments, opinions, and ideas in the essay. Do not cite Wikipedia because it is not always reliable. However, you may consult it initially. Use the MLA 2016 (8th ed.) documentation style for citing your sources. Be sure to read the pdf “2016 MLA Guidelines” which I posted in our FB group weeks ago.
FIRST DRAFT AND REVISION (OPTIONAL):
If you wish, you may submit a complete or partial draft of your essay on or before Friday, November 15, 2019. It should be a hard copy only. Submit it to me in person during our class periods on or before this date. Do not submit it to the English Dept. because student papers submitted there sometimes get misplaced. If you submit your draft on Nov. 15, I will return it with my comments on November 22. If you decide not to submit a draft of your essay, then I will read only the final version of your essay which is due on Nov. 29 (see below).
SUBMISSION OF FINAL VERSION:
Submit a hard copy of the final version of your second documented essay on Friday, November 29, 2019, during our class period. Bring it to our classroom. I will not accept essays sent by e-mail. If you wrote this essay with one or two classmates, you must both/all be present when you submit. You will each be required to describe your contributions to the work on your essay and to evaluate the work of your partner(s). This will be done orally, not in writing. If you are absent, or arrive more than 30 minutes after class begins and fail to participate in your peer evaluation, then you will receive a .50 deduction on the grade of your second documented essay. I will not spend the rest of the period waiting for you to arrive. 2
