lives

My friend Mike (1 live)    in Cambridge but each winter he (2

moves attends

move)    to Spain. He (3 attend)    several Spanish language

speaks

courses since he started going there and now he (4 speak)

Spanish quite well.
goes

While he is in Spain, he (5 go)    mountain climbing and he (6

climbs

climb)    all the important mountains at least once.

Unfortunately, he broke his leg last month, so at the moment he (7
is reading is watching

read)    and (8 watch)    a lot of television. Usually he (9

doesn`t watch

not watch)   a lot of television, but since last month he (10

has seen

see)    at least two films every day.

Look at these sentences from the article. Match the words in bold to the tenses (a-c)

a) Present Perfect
b) Present Simple
c) Present Continuous

1. Now he speaks Spanish quite well. (Present Simple)

2. He has seen at least two films every day. (Present Perfect)
3. So at the moment he is reading and is watching a lot of television. (Present Continuous)

Now match the tenses to their uses.

1. We use the Present Simple to talk about facts (Ex: Most children still choose school
subjects and build their future careers on very traditional models.), habits (Ex: My friend
Mike lives in Cambridge but each winter he moves to Spain.) and things that occur
repeatedly.
2. We use the Present Perfect to talk about a situation that began in the past and continues
into the present or to talk about something that happened at an indefinite time in the
past.
3. We use the Present Continuous to talk about present situations that are temporary or
changing.
