INSPIRE

(Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research)

PROJECT OVERVIEW
Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research is basically a programme managed,
developed and sponsored by The Department of Science & Technology so as to attract the
youth talent towards science. The main aim of INSPIRE is to communicate to the youth of
the country that being creative is what the science is all about. Attract them to study science
from the early age itself so that they build a pool of required critical human resource so as to
strengthen & expand research & development base as well as the science & technology
system.

A most attracting feature of this programme is that it does not believe in conducting any
competitive exams at any level for identification of youth. For the identification of the talent
it relies on the efficiency and effectiveness of the current educational structure.

INSPIRE has three components:-

1. Scheme for Early Attraction of Talent (SEATS)

2. Scholarship for Higher Education (SHE)
3. Assured Opportunity for Research Careers (AORC)

Under these three components their exist versions of each and every component given as
below:-

1) Scheme for Early Attraction of Talent (SEATS):- It includes awards and

internship for the youth talent so as to motivate them and give perquisites for
all the hardwork they have done.
2) Scholarship for Higher Education (SHE):- It basically involves the
scholarship which is being given to the most elite student
3) Assured Opportunity for Research Careers (AORC):- This involves faculty
reward and fellowship.

PROJECT SCOPE

Project Objectives:-

Following are the objectives aimed by the government behind this programme:-

1) To develop the interest of youth talent towards the field of science which will result into
development of a technological, research and development base.
2) It will help to motivate all the students and create an era of change as more educated the
people are of a specific country , more will be the power of that country.
3) At times till age of 18 mostly during the teenage or young age the students feel that the
education they are taking is of no use. Thus it tends to become their duty or responsibility
which they are required to do instead of a journey of learning.
Thus providing them awards for their hard work will result into a sense of motivation and
accomplishment for the students.
4) Also their will be an existence of competition wherein the student will not compete only at
the school level but also at national level.
5) The internship programme conducted would help the people to actually learn how is this
program applied nationwide and learn different aspects of dealing with the people & system
simultaneously.

SALIENT FEATURES OF THE COMPONENTS INVOLVED:-

1) Scheme for early attraction of talents(SEATS)

This scheme basically aims at attracting the youth to make their career in science and
study it in most detailed and effective way thus by providing INSPIRE award which will
help them to experience a joy and journey of innovations. This scheme would provide
Rs.5,000/- to all the one million young learners who are in the age group of10-15 years
and are learning science. There will also be annual winter/summer camps for 50000
youth at more than 100 locations who will top in the class X board examination so to give
them exposure in science with the global leaders through their internship programme.

This further include Awards and internship which are specified below:-

INSPIRE AWARD

With an aim to seed and experience joy of innovation it is conducted by the government
that every year 2 lak students who are with in the age of 10 to 15 years prominently in
class 6th to 10th will be identified through a process for the INSPIRE AWARD.This award
aims at investing 5000/- for each child for their development.

INSPIRE INTERNSHIP:-
The objective of this internship is to motivate the talented youh so that they take up
research as their personal undertaking which further involves working with the global
icons who are the noble prize winners. This will act as a life changing experience for the
the 11th graders who are in science stream.

2) Scholarship for Higher Education(SHE)

This Scholarship for Higher Education basically aims at attracting the talented youth so
that they undertake science intensive programmes as their higher education thereby
providing mentoring and scholarship to performing researchers through summer
attachment. This scheme offer 10000 scholarship for the talented youth who are within
the age group of 17-22 years who are pursuing Bachelor and Master education in
Natural & basic science.

There are 18 sciences subjects which will be considered under scholarship wherein it is
mandatory to have these subject either as major/honours or as a combination in
Msc/Inegrated Bsc/integrated Ms course.

The subjects which needs to be included are:-

1) Physics,

2) Chemistry,

3) Mathematics,

4) Biology,

5) Statistics,

6) Geology,

7) Astrophysics,

8) Astronomy,

9) Electronics,

10) Botany,

11) Zoology,

12) Bio-chemistry,

13) Anthropology,

14) Microbiology,

15) Geophysics,
16) Geochemistry,

17) Atmospheric Sciences

18) Oceanic Sciences

3) Assured Opportunity for Research Careers (AORC)

Assured Opportunity for Research Careers (AORC) was introduced with an aim to
attract, attach, retain and nourish the talented youth scientific HR so as to strengthen the
R&D foundation and further offer INSPIRE fellowship for the students within the age of
22-27years in both Basic and Applied sciences. It also involves offering opportunities for
the post doctoral researchers through various schemes for five years in basic and
applied science through INSPIRE Faculty Scheme.

STAKEHOLDERS: -
If we are required to specify the stakeholders in short then the people who will be affected and will
affect this programme will be its users, financial institutions, government, DST.

Thus they either invest in the programme so as to develop it in most prominent way and further
implement them nationwide.

Cost involved:-
A lot of cost will definitely be involved in this programme starting from forming this programme to
finding the right suit for the awards and providing perks for the most elite one etc.

This cost are to be managed by the government because there are lakhs of students all over the
country who are passing out every year.

Stakeholders involved in the project: -

1) Government: - It involves the government specifically Directorate of

Science and Technology who is responsible to undertake all the
activities involved in the business. These activities involve financing for
all the 3 components that are involved in this programme and further
fund for the internal and external processes.
2) Students: - As the programme is for the students who will be affected
by the programme then they will be the stakeholder for the INSPIRE
programme as well thus they are the final user who will be using thus
programme as they will be awarded for the same or accompanying with
the internship.
3) Financial Institutions: - There will be many financial institutions who
have interest in this programme and hence are further interested to
invest for the same. Thereby they will be investing if the government
requires fund or act as a sponsor of the awards provided for the
students.

EXECUTION OF THE PROJECT:-

There are following ways through which the programme will be initiated and executed :-
 As per this scheme for the INSPIRE award of rs.5000/-, 2 students from 6 th to 10th
standard will be selected from each school in country for a period of 5 years with an
aim that the model of science is prepared. The warrant funder this scheme for Award
INSPIRE will be issued in the name of student who is selected and will be sent directly
through the school officials/state.
  As per this scheme all the award winners need to participate in the District Level
Exhibition and Project Competition (DLEPC). The process followed by them is that the
best entries from 5 to 10 percent from the district are selected to participate in state
level exhibitions and project competitions (SLEPC) and further the best 5% from them
will be selected for the National Level Exhibition and Project Competition (NLEPC).All
these Projects are evaluated by experts and merit/participation certificates will be
issued as well.
 To fulfil the requirements of fund related to SLEPC,NLEPC,DLEPC: these are sent by
the nodal officer of the state electronically to the notified bank account.
 Further all these activities are effectively managed by the government of india as
well as the DST.

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES:-

icons and experience the true changing world.
e. There is no competitive exam taken under this scheme for selection of the students.

Disadvantages:-

a. The candidates have to undergo a interview at three stages

which will be done by Indian national Science academy.
b. Out of so many application all around 11000 there are only
11% who are actually offered fellowship.
c. Various complaints related to fun disbursal, harassment etc.
are drawn flak due to which the scheme has not catalysed
