Referring Students - Reflection
Write a short, 3 to 4 paragraph reflection that addresses the following
questions:

o What previous situations have you encountered where you

had to refer a student to another service?  Describe your
interactions with the student in these situations.

I’ve only had a couple of experience that a student needed additional

services. Mostly the student knew what they wanted and just needed
directions to the office in question. Ex. Academic Advisor, VA and Test
Center. But I have spoken the other tutors where there referred a
student to Food Pantry, DRC, and Health Services (Counseling).

o What prompted you to refer the student to the service in

question?

As stated above I haven’t really had a situation yet that I needed to

refer a student outside of the tutoring center for nonacademic support
services but through training I’m more aware of what’s available and
will be forth coming in dialoguing with students so that they can get
services so that they can perform well in class and reach their goals.

o What services do you most commonly refer students to

outside of your tutoring session?

The services that I mostly refer students to currently is back to

teachers and lab instructors to refine conspectus covered in tutoring
sessions.

Based on the data provided I believe a lot of students are receiving

services at the DRC so I believe my first real referral may be to the
DRC.

o Think about the tips you learned about how to effectively

refer students. 
You have be very careful with referrals because you might be off
center in a referral recommendation. That would be very bad and I
personally don’t want to offend or hurt someone’s feelings.

o Which of these are you already utilizing? 

I just referred students to the math workshops and focused study

sessions at T-ville STEM center.

o Which do you plan to implement in the future?

I hope that I will always be sensitive to the students needs and will be
able to identify students who may need a little bit of help as they
pursue there academic goals.

So the answer to this question is whatever is required to assist

students to establish the conditions for long term success.
