ERIKSON’S PSYCHOSOCIAL STAGES

Psychosocial stage 1 – Trust vs. Mistrust

I choose trust because my mother providing food, safety, a fresh diaper, or a comforting cuddle
for me. When I cry my mother give what I need and I learn to trust when they are caring for me.

Psychosocial stage 2 – Autonomy vs. Shame and Doubt

In this stage I can walk away with my mother, picking which toy to play with, and making
choices about what I like to wear, to eat, etc. and  developing a sense of self-control and personal
autonomy.

Psychosocial stage 3 - Initiative vs. Guilt


In this stage I am interacting with other children at school. I play and explore the interpersonal
skills through initiating activities. I am begun to plan activities, make up games, and initiate
activities with others. And I develop a sense of initiative and feel secure in my ability to lead
others and make decisions.

Psychosocial stage 4 - Industry vs. Inferiority

In this stage I learned to read and write, to do sums, to do things on my own. I am focused with
my study because I am scared to fail in my subjects.

Psychosocial stage 5 - Identity vs. Confusion

This stage plays an essential role in developing a sense of personal identity which will continue
to influence behavior and development for the rest of a person's life. Our personal identity gives
each of us an integrated and cohesive sense of self that endures through our lives. Our sense of
personal identity is shaped by our experiences and interactions with others, and it is this identity
that helps guide our actions, beliefs, and behaviors as we age.
Psychosocial stage 6 - Intimacy vs. Isolation

In this stage I have Strong and deep romantic relationships and close relationships with friends
and family. I always think my future.

Psychosocial stage 7 - Generativity vs. Stagnation

In this stage I am making commitments to other people, developing relationships with family,


mentoring others and contributing to the next generation.

Psychosocial stage 8 - Integrity vs. Despair 

This stage begins as the aging adult begins to tackle the problem of my mortality. The onset of
this stage is often triggered by life events such as retirement, the loss of a spouse, the loss of
friends and acquaintances, facing a terminal illness, and other changes to major roles in life.
