LESSON PLAN

ON
FEMALE REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM

General Objective:-
At the end of class teaching student will be able to understand regarding Physiology of
Female Reproductive System.

Specific Objective:-

At the end of class, students are able to:

 introduce the topic- physiology of female reproductive system

 define the topic- physiology of female reproductive system
 classify female reproduction system, and discuss its function
 explain the Physiology of Female Reproductive System

topic- Female The gonads are the sex glands of the female and Female
Reproductive male. Gonadal development begins during the 5th reproductive
System week of fetal life. Gonadal differentiation occurs system?
in the 7th and 8th weeks of gestation.

1. External Genitalia: The other name of

external genitalia is vulva and pudendum.
The vulva includes mons pubis, labia
majora, labia minora, clitoris, vestibules
and conventionally the perineum. These
are all visible on external examination.

2. Internal Genitalia: The internal female
genital structures produce and release the
reproductive cell or ovum, transport ova to
the potential site of fertilization and
provide an appropriate environment for the
growth and delivery of the fetus. The
internal genital organs in female include
vagina, uterus, fallopian tube and the
ovaries. These organs are placed internally
and require special instruments for
inspection.
Discussion Listening Slide List out the
a) Function of Ovaries function of
 Ovaries are the female gonads, producing Ovaries?
the female germ cell(ovum) and hormones
(estrogen and progesterone).
 Means ovaries produces ova for
fertilization and synthesis and secrete
estrogen and progesterone.

b) Function of Fallopian Tube fallopian
 Two fallopian tubes connect the uterus to tube?
the ovaries.
 Fallopian tubes are the usual site of
fertilization.
 It transports ova to uterus for implantation.
 They connect the ovum to the uterus.

c) Function of Uterus uterus?
 It is the environment for implantation,
development and delivery of the fetus.
 Part of the uterus i.e. cervix allows entry of
sperm for the fertilization.
 Mainly implantation occur in the uterus,
endometrium.

d) Function of Vagina vagina?
 Vagina is the route of entry for sexual
intercourse.
 Vaginal secretion allow the sperms to

move easily towards the uterus.
 Vagina is the exit for menstrual blood.
 Also is the exit of birth canal.

3. Accessory Reproductive Organ:

Breast:- The breasts are bilateral glandular

structures and in female constitute accessory
reproductive organ as the glands are concerned
with lactation following childbirth.

system.
1. Ovulation
 At puberty (usually between 12-18 years)
the ova begin to mature.
 During a period known as the follicular
phases, an ovum enlarges as type of cyst
called a graffian follicle until it reaches the
surface of the ovary, where transport
occurs.
 The ovum (or Oocyte) is discharged into
the peritoneal cavity.
 This ovum usually finds it’s way into the
fallopian tube, where it is carried to the
uterus.
 If it is penetrated by a spermatozoon, the
male reproductive cell, a union occurs and

conception takes place.
 After the discharge of the ovum, the cells
of the graffian follicle undergo a rapid
change.
 Usually they become yellow (corpus
leuteum) and produce progesterone, a
hormone that prepares the uterus for
receiving the fertilized ovum.
 Ovulation usually occurs two weeks prior
to the next menstrual period.

2. Menstruation
 The menstrual cycle or female reproductive
cycle, consists of the ovarian cycle and the
uterine cycle.
 It results from a complex interaction of the
hypothalamus, the anterior pituitary and
the ovary.
 The interaction causes the ovary to release
a mature ovum and prepares the uterine
lining to receive and nourish the ovum it is
fertilized.
 If the ovum is not fertilized the menstrual
cycle begins with onset of menstruation.

3. Menopausal Period
Menopause means permanent cessation of
menstruation at the end of reproductive life
due to loss of ovarian follicular activity.
The average age being 50 years.
RECAPITULIZATION: By the end of class teaching, the students were able to answer the following questions:

1. Define female reproductive system?

2. Classify female reproductive system?

3. Explain the physiology of female reproductive system?

Summary : - The gonads are the sex glands of the female and male. The reproductive organ in female are those which are concered with copulation,
fertilization, growth and development of the fetus and its subsequent exit to the outer world.

Conclusion :-The class teaching on Physiology of Female Reproductive System will be beneficial for the students, as it will help them to state and
understand the physiology of female reproductive system.
