Introduction

Definition of Language

Language is a communication tool that must be owned by people who do social


relationships with others. With language, everything we want to express can be
delivered properly. Language itself is a unifying tool of the nation. This tool can be
used to facilitate us in communication with each other, each of which has a different
culture. In life we must communicate to continue to maintain communication
because communication is the basic or the first step in human socializing to be
alive.

According to Smarapradhipa (2005) there are two language understanding. The first
notion is language is state means of communication between members of public in
the form of a symbol of sound produces means of what human say. Second,
language is a communication system that uses symbol of vocal (speech sound)
which are arbitrary.

Definition of slang

Slang is a variety of unofficial language and not yet a seasonal standard. Usually
used by certain social groups to communicate internally so that non-member of the
group would not understand. Slang is created from the change of linguistic message
form without changing its content for concealment or humour. Choer (2004) said
that a slang is a special and secret social variation.

Slang is very informal usage in vocabulary and idiom that is characteristically more
metaphorical, playful, elliptical, and vivid than ordinary language.

Slang is the use of informal words and expressions that are not considered standard
in the speaker’s language or dialect but are considered acceptable may act as
euphemisms and may be used as a means of identifying with one’s peers. Cited

Research questions

1. What is slang language that ARISAN ladies use on Facebook?


2. Why do ARISAN ladies use slang language on Facebook?
3. How do ARISAN ladies get the slang language?

Based on the research questions above, the aims of the research are to know slang
language the ARISAN ladies use in Facebook, the reason why ARISAN ladies use
slang language on Facebook, and how they find the slang language.
Theoretical Framework

In theoretical framework the researchers explain theories about slang language,


and according to Swan (2005:526) Slang is kind of vocabulary, used mostly in
speech by people who know other well.

History of slang

In the beginning of the formation of slang language, it is originated from a


community or a particular social group in the class or lower class. Gradually it is
used by the community and eventually the language is used for everyday
communication.

Methods

In this research, researchers used qualitative method. Qualitative research is a


research on descriptive research and tend to use analysis. Process and meaning
(subject perspective) or more highlighted in qualitative research. Theoretical basis
is used as a guide to focus the research in accordance with the facts in the field.

According Moleong (2007:6) research qualitative method is research that intends to


understand the phenomenon of what is experienced by the subject of research such
as behaviour, perception, motivation, action, etc., holistically, and by way of
description in the form of words and language, in a special context that is natural
and by utilizing various natural methods.

This research was held among ARISAN ladies on social media. Researchers think
that choose Facebook will be helpful because researchers can find sample easily,
Facebook is easy to access. The research was stared in 16 th December 2017, the
researchers began the research when the researchers got legalization from lecturer
of Sociolinguistics. The research was distributed on 18th December 2017. The
participants in the research are ARISAN ladies on Facebook, especially in ARISAN
ladies community. The sample in this research is three participants.

Findings and Discussion

Based on the research, in this section the researchers present data


description of finding research of slang language in ARISAN ladies, and from three
participants’ status, there are some of slang language that is usually used to update
status on Facebook.

Based on the research, the researchers found more slang language from third
participants in Facebook status. And they used slang language to follow the
development of new society, to express themselves to make them look cool. In this
case, they found slang language through society that keeps developing.

Conclusion

Based on the research, the researchers found more slang language from third
participants in Facebook status. And they used slang language to follow the
development of new society, to express themselves to make them look cool. In this
case, they found slang language through society that keeps developing.

Based on the research, researchers taken of slang language in status on Facebook


and a third participants there are used some of slang language in the repeat.
