COURSE POLICY

GRADING POLICY: Lecture is 70% of your course grade. Student must pass the lecture to
pass the course. Lab is 30% of your course grade.

Allocation of points for Lecture Class: 70%

Four 100 points Lecture Exams (modular)  400 Points
Four 15 points Lecture Quizzes  60 Points
Four 15 Points Assignments/Activity  60 Points
Research Paper 40 Points  40 Points
Discussion Board postings  40 Points
Total  600 Points

(Minimum 420 points (70% of 600 pts) to pass the lecture section)

MUST PASS LECTURE TO PASS THE COURSE

Allocation of total points for Laboratory class: 30%

 Three 100 point exams. Total = 300 points

 Ten 10 point lab quizzes. Total = 100 points

LABORATORY TOTAL = 400 points (The laboratory is 30% of your grade)

How to determine your letter grade during the semester:

Lecture Average your exam scores plus total quiz scores (3 quizzes or critical thinking exercises),
and one library assignment. Multiply the average by 0.7 to get your adjusted lecture score.

Lecture % Adjusted score out of 70

90- 100 63-70
80-89 56-62
70-79 49-55
60-69 42-48
59 or less 41 or less

Lab Average your exam scores plus total quiz scores (10 quizzes count as 1 exam). Multiply the
average by 0.3 to get your adjusted lab score.
Lab % Adjusted score out of 30
90- 100 28-30
80-89 24-27 Lab has no letter grade
70-79 21-23
60-69 18-20
59 or less 17 or less

Course Grade: For your final grade, the adjusted score for the lecture (70 pts) and lab (30 pts)
scores will be added together. The final grades will be determined as follows:
Course Final % Letter grade equivalent
90- 100 A
80-89 B
70-79 C
60-69 D
59 or less F

SELF STUDY: During the first week of class students are responsible for reviewing the following
concepts:
 Homeostasis/Body Organization/Atoms/Reactions---Chem I
 Inorganic/Organic chemistry-Chem II
 Cell Structure & Function.
HW 1 on Pearson Mylabs site will assess knowledge of the above concepts.

1. Students need to have access code to Pearson MasteringAandP web site in the FIRST
week of classes. You need to have a code to access it. All HW and Quizzes are on
Masteringaandp web site only. The instructor will announce when homework activities
& quizzes are posted on the web site & the due dates, you are responsible for due
dates, there will NO extensions of due dates regardless of reason for missing due date.

2. Exam / Quiz Policy: ALL EXAMS ARE GIVEN AT THE TESTING CENTER ON
LIBERTY CAMPUS – PRIOR ONLINE APPOINTMENT IS REQUIRED
 ALL QUIZZES AND EXAMS ARE CLOSED BOOK.
 THERE ARE NO TAKE HOME EXAMS.
 THERE ARE NO EXTRA CREDIT HOME WORKS OR ASSIGNMENTS.

3. Discussion Board: Students must log in and post on topic posted, first post is your write up
on the topic, second posting is to comment on TWO other students posting, DB points are
posted at end of every two weeks, missing a posting is marked as absent, no extensions if
you miss due date, score will post as zero. See rubrics for DB points.
4. Missed Exam Policy: Students MUST inform the instructor if they miss an exam and must
have a documented excuse on returning to class.

 If you miss a quiz or exam, you must contact your instructor immediately upon your
return to the classroom to arrange a makeup. All makeup quiz/ exams WILL BE (short
answers) IN ESSAY FORMAT. Otherwise, missed exams will be counted as zero in
your grade point average. A student cannot pass the course with an exam score of
zero.
 Lab exams: All make ups for missed lab exams will be an oral exam on models with
your instructor.

5. Attendance Policy: Regular online class attendance is essential at BCCC. Student’s

attendance is marked by posting on the course Canvas Discussion Board twice a week.

6. Lab Safety: ON THE FIRST DAY OF LAB CLASS, the instructor will present a
POWER POINT on LAB SAFETY GUIDELINES. You will be required to take A
LAB SAFETY QUIZ thereafter, and pass with a grade of 80% or above to be allowed
to continue with lab class. If you do not meet this requirement, you will be directed to
LSB Rm. 302 to go and retake the quiz. Food and drinks are NOT allowed in the

with your textbook.
 Aris is a website with wonderful learning tools associated with each chapter of Saladin.
 Interactive Physiology CDs – available at SRLC located at LSB 302 ( this CD as a very effective
tool in understanding many physiology concepts)

10. Inclement Weather Policy: Please watch the local news channel and look up the school
web site for delayed opening or college closure.

11. For additional college wide policies; including academic integrity, the student is
advised to read the Student Code of Conduct Handbook.
