CONCEPT DESIGN OF BUS RAPID TRANSIT (BRT)

DOWN RAMP FROM ARCHBISHOP REYES AVENUE GOING

TO N. ESCARIO STREET
DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION COST CONSTRAINT OF DOWN RAMP AT
ARCHBISHOP REYES AVENUE GOING TO N. ESCARIO STREET

1) Location 1:
Excavation of existing road pavement should be done so that min. 5m road vertical clearance
can be attained. However, length of vertical curve shall extend to the affected pavement
which will come out to be uneconomical design. See Fig. No. 1 and Concept no. 1 drawing.

2) Location 2:
Nothing to do vertical clearance more than the min. 5.0m height pursuant to DPWH
DGCS/AASHTO requirement. However, length of vertical curve due to redesign at location no.
1 will be affected, for such existing pavement will be removed and replaced which will have
cost implication that will increase the project construction cost. See Fig. No. 2 and Concept
no. 1 drawing.

3) Location 3:
Excavation of existing road pavement should be done to be satisfactory to 5.0m minimum
vertical clearance in accordance with DPWH DGCS/AASHTO. However, road pavement level
at intersection should be adjusted to accommodate the adjustment of Location 3 on grade
pavement level.

Additionally, acquisition of the right of way to increase the travel way width of the on-grade
road at N. Escario Street due to the BRT ramp down provision at center of existing road, which
because of the existing Park Lane Hotel wall make such road widening (at N. Escario St.)
difficult to do and very costly. See Fig. 4 to 8 and Concept No.1 drawing.

4) Location 4:
Adjustment of Location 3 could affect the road pavement level of intersection at Location 4,
which its adjustment can lead to additional cost to the project. See Fig. No. 7 and Fig. No.9
which shows intersection between N. Escario Street and J. Solon Drive.

5) Conclusion:
The alignment as proposed in Concept no. 1 drawing when continue have difficulties in
the implementation stage due to right of way acquisition, redesign of vertical curves of
the affected road level and intersection which will greatly affect the total cost of project.

Our advice is to look for another Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) route, a location of which the
design is the most economical during construction implementation stage.
