Course Contents

1. Semiconductor Materials - Introduction to electronics devices. Atomic structure


and material classification. Semiconductor doping and covalent bonding. Conduction
in semiconductor.
2. Diode - Introduction to P-N Junction. Biasing the PN Junction (Forward and
reverse biased). Ideal and practical diode characteristic and circuit analysis. Zener
diode characteristics and application as a voltage regulator.
3. Rectifier- Basic blocks of power supplies. Half wave and full wave rectifier.
Applications of full wave rectifier with capacitor filter and voltage regulator in power
supply.
4. Bipolar Junction Transistor (BJT) - Introduction to BJT. DC Analysis: BJT
basic operation, configuration, current relation and operational region. BJT as
amplifier. AC analysis: Mid frequency AC analysis using hybrid – π model. Amplifier
parameters (AV(OC), Av, Zi and Zo).

5. Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor (MOSFET) -


Introduction to MOSFET. DC Analysis: MOSFET basic operation, configuration,
current relation and operational region. MOSFET as amplifier. AC analysis: Mid
frequency AC analysis using hybrid – π model. Amplifier parameters (AV(OC), Av, Zi
and Zo).
6. Operational Amplifiers (Op Amps) - Op – Amp characteristic. Linear:
Inverting and non – inverting amplifies, voltage follower, inverting and non –
inverting summing, differentiator and integrator. Non-Linear: Comparator and
Schmitt Trigger.
7. Electronic Circuit Application - Oscillator (Wien Bridge), Multivibrator
(Astable) and 555 Timer.

Course Outcomes

Recognize and explain the basic


operations of electronic devices.

Analyze circuitry with diode,


FET and/or BJT components.

Design basic biasing circuits using


information from data sheet.
