Be sure to use your time wisely. Complete 1-hour or more of work each day (including class and homework). All documents are
posted on mreisnersclass.weebly.com/apel and all work is due on Schoology. Check the class website and Schoology daily to make
sure you are on-task. Deadlines for assignments are hard deadlines. Assignments will be LOCKED at deadline. Do not wait until
the last minute to upload your work. NO LATE WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED.
Furthermore, all assignments (besides essay-related materials) will be posted by Sunday, March 15 @11:59pm. You may choose
to complete the posted assignments early.

You may find it helpful and expeditious to exchange information (phone numbers, emails) with a classmate.

Complete the following:

*As you read, annotate your text using post its. Look for any events that respond to the essential question: “What is Fitzgerald’s
commentary on the American Dream?”

1. In your notebook, respond:
“A Million Dollars?”

Characters use their money in different ways. Tom uses his to garner power and to ensure his affair, while Gatsby uses his to throw parties
that eventually help lure Daisy back into his life.

2. Complete the vocabulary for Chapter 6 and then read The Great Gatsby Chapter 6 and complete “Gatsby Study Questions
Chapter 6” (posted on Schoology) by Sunday, March 15 @ 11:59pm.

3. Complete the vocabulary for Chapter 7 and then read The Great Gatsby Chapter 7 and complete “Gatsby Study Questions
Chapter 7” (posted on Schoology) by Tuesday, March 17 @ 11:59pm. Submit on Schoology.

4. Complete the vocabulary for Chapter 8 and then read The Great Gatsby Chapter 8 and complete “Gatsby Study Questions
Chapter 8” (posted on Schoology) by Thursday, March 19 @ 11:59pm. Submit on Schoology.

5. Complete the vocabulary for Chapter 9 and then read The Great Gatsby Chapter 9 and complete “Gatsby Study Questions
Chapter 9” (posted on Schoology) by Monday, March 23 @ 11:59pm. Submit on Schoology.

6. View the Baz Luhrmann (2013) version of The Great Gatsby by Wednesday, March 25 @ 11:59 pm.

7. Complete the “Gatsby Film Questions” (posted on Schoology) and submit on Schoology by Friday, March 27 @ 11:59pm.
The film is available through the Los Angeles Public Library and Santa Monica Public Library systems, as well as for rent
on YouTube and other platforms.

*ONLY if we enter a third week of quarantine, on Saturday, March 28, I will post, on Schoology, the “Gatsby Final Essay”
prompt along with a graphic organizer, and a rubric workshop.

8. Complete the Graphic Organizer by Tuesday, March 31 @11:59pm and submit on Schoology.

7. Write a DRAFT of the essay by Thursday, April 2, THEN using the rubric (posted on Schoology), score and comment on
your work. Submit your rubric with comments and scores by Friday, April 3 @11:59pm on Schoology.

8. Submit a final draft of your Gatsby Essay to the Schoology assignment by Sunday, April 5 @11:59pm.
