AN INTRODUCTION PARAGRAPH (PART 1)

This article about social media can make teen have depression.Social media is websites and
application that enable users to create and share content or to participate in social networking.The
example of social media that all people use are like Twitter,Facebook,Instagram and others.Not only
teen use this platform,but the young adults also use this social media to find their old friends,relatives or
others.But from this social media,it can cause depression,stress and others.But the main problem that
occur is depression among teens.The symptoms of depression exhibited by teens are likely to negatively
affect school performance (and even attendance),friendships and family relatioships.It also can make
someone commit suicide due to the social media.Every cause have on action.That action can make
someone become better and stay healthy.

The main idea of this articles is how social media can cause depression to the users.Some
studies have linked prolonged social media and mobile phone use with symptoms of depression, anxiety
and low self-esteam.A study published in The Lancest Psychiatry found people who spend the night
checked social media are more likely to suffer from mood problems such as neuroticism and bipolar
disorder and rate themselves as less happy and more lonely .University of Melbourne researches has
been warn that care needs to be taken when making a direct link between mental health and social
media use.Experts appear to largely agree that social media is neither wholly good nor bad for our
emotional well-being and that its impact our mental healthy depends or number of factors,including
how its used.

Social media dramatically changed the way we communicate,socialize and make and maintain
friendships.While there are benefits to living in a digital world,there are also have are risk.Today’s youth
miss out on critical social skills development when they spend the majority of their free time connected
to and interacting through a screen.They can also get lost in a world of unrealistic
comparisons,cyberbullying and felling left out.Does that mean that Instagram and Facebook are actually
causing depression?These studies show a correlation,not causation.One reason the correlation seems
more than coincidental is that an increase in the depression occurred in tandem with the rise in
smartphone use.Smartphone were introduced in 2007 and by 2015 fully 92% of teens and young adults
owned a smartphone.The rise in depressive symptoms correlates with smartphone adoption during that
period,even when matched year by year,observes the study’s lead author,San Diego State University
psychologist Jean Twenge.It’s not big secret that connecting via texting,Instagram and facebook can
include harsh judgement and comparisons.It’s easier to make statement on a screen that would
otherwise be difficult to verbalize face to face.And disjointed shorthand conversation can easily result in
misunderstandings.It doen’t help that digital communication occurs at a rapid pace ,one that is difficult
to process at times.

PERSONAL REACTION (PART 3)

From this article,the most suprising or interesting thing that I found out by reading this article is
I know why depression is happening when people surfing social media .From the article,I know that
teenage and young adult who spend the most time on Instagram,Facebook and others platform were
shown to have a substantially (from 13 to 66%) higher rate of reported depression than those who spent
least time.It can cause many symptoms like insomnia or hypersomnia,irritable mood or can cause
suicide risk.The main causes of this cases is by the introduced of smartphone.But,this problem can be
treat by support from parent,counseling and others.

From this article,the question that hovering in my mind are what would happen to teen if they
can’t stop using social media?, what will government do to the society to containment this issue?.What I
like to learn more about this article is how social media can cause depression.From this,how social
media “pressure” and make teens become depression.

The other keyword that I find after reading this article is “How can social media affect your
health” by Alex DiRenzo who is former contributor.

CONCLUDING PART (PART 4)

The conclusion,social media can cause dangerous to our metal health and also ourself.Even
social media have benefit,but it also have a lot of disadvantages not only for teens but it also for all
users.Research shows an increase in major despressive episodes from 8.7% in 2015 o 11.3% in 2014 in
adolescents and from 8.8% to 9.6% in young adults.The increase was larger and only statistically
significant only in the age range of 12 to 20 years.Clearly depression is on the rise among teens.One
report by the Royal Society for Public Health in the UK surveyed 1500 young people,ages 14 to
24,determine the effects of social media use on issues such as anxiety,depression,self-esteem and body
image.Believe it or not,teens does want our support and guidance,but it can be hard to strike a balance
between helping and trying to fix everything.
