Emoji Master Painting Rubric

Objectives:
• Choose a master painting from an artist and time period that
intrigues you and that has interesting and complex subject matter.
Choose from my collection of painting handouts or print out your
own. This painting cannot be minimalistic.
• Choose an emoji(s) or some type of visual culture to incorporate
into your chosen master painting composition. The emoji should
“add” to the story of the painting. For example, rather than replacing
the moon in a painting with a moon emoji, add something else silly or interesting in the sky.
The emoji should alter the meaning of the painting to make it more silly/serious/mysterious/
etc. Definitely have a sense of humor and think outside the box! Be original!
• Make a pencil sketch of the painting with the emoji incorporated/integrated into the
composition.
• Use colored pencils to render (COLOR) the new composition. Use very firm pressure with the
colored pencils to ensure bold, vivid color. Do not forget to color the background, leaving no
white space behind!
