AmBisyon Natin 2040

Every one of us has an ambition. These ambitions maybe towards ourselves, or towards
the people around us. We aspire and crave for things that are somewhat attainable in the future.
In the Philippines, there is a certain project with regards to the ambition of the government for
the Filipino People. “AmBisyon Natin 2040 represents the collective long-term vision and
aspirations of the Filipino people for themselves and for the country in the next 25 years. It
describes the kind of life that people want to live, and how the country will be by 2040”
(National Economic and Development Authority. Republic of the Philippines, 2016). AmBisyon
Natin 2040 represents our desired picture that is a focus on the betterment for all Filipinos in the
future. Every one of us has the freedom to think or to crave the things that we want to be or to
have in our life. This maybe our dreams as CPAs, our dreams for our environment, or it may be
our dreams for our family. In the article given to us, there are three ambitions that are stated and
these are; 1) Filipinos are strongly rooted, 2) Filipinos are comfortable, and 3) Filipinos are
secure. In the proceeding paragraphs it will be discuss my opinion of this three ambitions if it is
attainable or the latter.

First ambition; Filipinos are strongly rooted. According to the article, “Filipinos are
strongly rooted: matatag. Filipino families live together; there is work-life balance so that there
is time to spend with family even for members who work. On weekends, families and friends
enjoy time together in parks and recreational centers”. I agree with the statement above. I can say
that the ambition is attainable, given the right circumstances like, having a real and true love for
each member of the family, good communication within themselves especially in this age of
technology wherein it is growing rapidly as of the moment, and lastly, a Filipino family are
mostly complete wherein there is a mother and father that fulfils their role in the family. Here in
our country, the Philippines, it is probable that the ambition will be attained because of high
number of parents that has love and is always concerned with regards to their children. The
parents are very supportive to their children with regards to their children so much that the child
has the capacity to choose for him/herself.

Second ambition, Filipinos are comfortable. It is stated in the article that, “Filipinos are
comfortable: maginhawa. No one is poor, no one is ever hungry. Filipino families live in
comfortable homes with the desired amenities and secure tenure”. I cannot say that the ambition
stated above is attainable especially as to what is happening right now. Here in our country, we
cannot deny the fact that we are overpopulated and our population is continually growing. In
addition to this, people here in the Philippines have no permanent, clean, and healthy place of
living. This ambition is an unattainable one because being in the state of comfort is merely a
subjective state. One can be comfortable given the circumstances that he/she feels safe, or solace.
Furthermore, Filipino citizens have many different negative habits. One such negative habit is
the 'Mañana habit.’ It means mamaya na in Filipino or to do a certain thing in a later time. It is
also called procrastination or delaying works that are to be done. To make this ambition
attainable, we as Filipino citizens need to dispose all of our negative habits, wherein we must
work hard towards the betterment of ourselves and of our country, in order for all of us to be
sitting comfortably in a chair or a hammock.

Third ambition, Filipinos are secure. Base on the article, “Filipinos are secure: panatag.
Filipinos feel secure over their entire lifetime. They expect to live long and enjoy a comfortable
life upon retirement. There are resources to cover unexpected expenses, and there are savings”. I
don’t think that this ambition can be attained by 2040 because of current issues. Issues with
regards to the Scarborough Shoal are one of the main issues that are going against the security of
Filipinos. Citizens of our country are becoming rest less with regards to issues of national
security. Due to this reasoning, Filipinos are always thinking whether or not we will be subjected
to mainland China because of claims. Islands are being taken by them one-by-one without any
regards to our government. Corrupt politicians are also one of the main drivers in which the
people of the Philippines are becoming less secured when it comes to their contributions (taxes).
To make this ambition true, we must act as a collective unit in the society wherein each one of us
has a role to fulfil. We must also not elect incompetent, biased, and corrupt government officials
so that we may feel secured when it comes to the national taxes. The people must not be easily
swayed by fake promises of a utopia because such lies are done by snakes.

AmBisyon Natin 2040 talks about the ambitions of our government to every Filipino
people. The government has three ambitions for each of us and these are; 1) Filipinos are
strongly rooted, 2) Filipinos are comfortable, and 3) Filipinos are secure. However, only one of
these ambitions can be attained and this is the ambition that talks about Filipinos being strongly
rooted. The other two ambitions are non-attainable in which they talk about the comfort of
Filipino Citizens which is also in line with our security. Given by the situations nowadays,
Filipinos are being treated unfairly by foreigners. The island grabbing of China makes one think
that we Filipinos are being oppressed in our own country. We do not have the choice but to feel
unsafe in our own territory. Although AmBition 2040 is a national project where in the citizens
will benefit the most, we must not forget that it is still up to us whether or not we succeed.
