RATIONALE

Philippine literature is the literature associated with the Philippines and includes the

legends of prehistory, and the colonial legacy of the Philippines. Most of the notable literature of

the Philippines was written during the Spanish period and the first half of the 20th century in the

Spanish language. Philippine literature is written in Spanish, English,Tagalog, or other

native Philippine languages.

E-Learning or Electronic Learning is an inclusive term that describes educational

technology that electronically or technologically supports learning and teaching. It includes

numerous types of media that deliver text, audio, images, and streaming video, and includes

technology applications and processes. It is an Education using the Internet, network,

and computer. It is essentially the network-enabled transfer of skills and knowledge, refers to use

electronic applications and processes to learn. E-Learning applications and processes include

Web-based learning, computer-based learning, virtual classrooms and digital collaboration. E-

Learning means Connectivity, Communication, Collaboration and Contents.

Nowadays, internet technologies is one of the part of our daily lives. It can a source of

learning. Internet technology can make work in a more easier process, it offers tremendous

opportunities to bring learning into the mainstream of business.

One of the problem why the researchers want to conduct this study is because, of the

difficulty in monitoring student progress by the instructor. The College of Arts and Sciences of

Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite want to have an e-learning website for their other

subjects. The researchers want to develop an e-learning website for Literature 1 subject of

College of Arts and Sciences in Cavite State University, Indang Cavite.

Objectives of the Study

The general objectives of the study is to develop an e-learning system for Philippine

Literature of College of Arts and Sciences in Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite.

Specifically the study aims to:

1. identify the problems for the development of the system through interview;

2. analyze the problems in teaching Philippine Literature using fishbone diagram;

3. design the interface of the system through the use of usecase digram and class diagram;

4. develop a reliable learning platform that will enhance the subject delivery using the

software’s Macromedia Dreamweaver, MySQL and PHP;

5. evaluate the system through unit and acceptance testing.

Significance of the Study

Developing an e-learning system has many advantages like, it can reduce the time

consuming and money. It may also have benefits on the institution, proponents, user and future

researchers.

It can help the College of Arts and Sciences to reach their goals by developing an e-

learning system.

The teachers can inform and update the students in the website about lesson and activity

in their subject. Students

It can enhace the skills and the ability can also access the e-learning website everywhere

as long as they have a network. It will less the paperworks of the students and teachers.of the

researcher. This will set as a basis about e-learning for the future researchers.
Expected Output

The Literature 1 e-learning website will be handled by the College of Arts and Sciences in

Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. In this website , the students can access the website for the

purpose of their study. The study consists of four modules namely; user account module, course

management module, assesment module, and report module.

User Account Module

The system requires the user to login in order to gain access to the e-learning modules.

This will secure and protect the system from unauthorized users. The system will specify the

students who are enrolled in the subject matter to have an access to the e-learning. Administrator

is the one responsible in adding instructors while the instructors are the one responsible for

adding students.

Course Management Module

Lessons are based in the subject syllabus and lessons will be present through text or

pictures for the student’s better understanding. Unlike in the traditional approach of giving self

instructional materials, lessons can be viewed in a simpler manner by means of electronic tools

in an interactive way and can be referenced for understanding some of the technologies in the

subject.
Assessment Module

It contains the Examination and Assignment given by the instructor. Quizzes will be in

the form of True or False, Identification and Multiple Choices. The students can view and

answer it at the same time. It will serve as an assessment tool for the student’s performance about

what they have learned from the lesson.

Communication Module

This module includes the discussion part of students and teachers. This part lets the

student and teachers change ides and helps in communication. Also includes the Announcement

Module where the teacher posted news and announcement and can be viewed by the students in

corresponding schedule.

Report Module

This module will produce reports which will provide the list of the students and their

grades for quiz and assignments and the list of instructors handling the subject Philippine

Literature.
Methodology

There are various software development approaches that were defined and designed

which were used and employed during the development process of software. These approaches

are also referred as “Software Development Process Model”. For this study, the Iterative model

will be used. Iterative model is an approach in Software Development Process Model. The whole

process of software development was divided into separate processing phases namely: planning,

requirment, analysis, software design, coding and development, implementation, software testing

and evaluation, and deployment.

Figure 1. Iterative Model

Planning Phase

In the Planning Phase, it defines the solution in detail what to build, how to build it, who

will build it, and when it will be built. During this phase the team works through the design

process to create the solution architecture and design, writes the functional specification, and

prepares work plans, cost estimates, and schedules for the various deliverables.
Requirment Phase

This is the initial phase of the development process wherein the development team works

closely with the customer to determine the customer's requirements for the product. The

requirements phase identifies the functionality, performance levels, and other characteristics

which the product must satisfy in order for it to be acceptable to the customer. The requirements

developed in this phase serve as a foundation for the remaining phases of the development

process, and as the customer acceptance criteria.

Analysis Phase

In this phase all the data process and information of the organization will be analyze. In

the analysis phase the requirements gathered in the requirements phase, are used to create report

definitions and layouts, screen definitions and layouts, data element definitions, workflow

diagrams, and security matrices. This phase culminates in the creation of a “logical” model of

the application.

Software Design

This phase provide the blue print of the software project. One of the important phase

before starting the actual code. The physical model contains business object logic, database

schemas identifying relationships, web object design and layout, report calculations and

processing, and the security object definition.

Coding and Development Phase

In this phase the individual objects or components of the application are coded from the

physical model. Once the system objects have been developed, they are gathered and connected

together (integrated) to create a working application. The integrated application is placed on a

staging server for testing

Implementation Phase

This phase has one key activity: deploying the new system in its target environment.

Supporting actions include training end-users and preparing to turn the system over to

maintenance personnel. After this phase, the system enters the Maintenance Phase for the

remainder of the system’s operational life.

Software Testing and Evaluation Phase

In this phase encompasses three testing stages; component testing, requirements testing,

and acceptance testing. During component testing, all objects are tested to ensure they work

together as specified by the physical design. Once the components are tested and the system

operates as designed, the application is tested against the requirements gathered in the

requirements phase of development. Once the requirements testing stage is completed, the

system is presented to the business function for acceptance testing. In all testing stages, defects

are identified and returned to the development/coding phase for correction.

Deployment Phase

Deployment is the process of taking the finished software and making it available to all

users. This process depends heavily on the type of application, IT infrastructure, user base and

any other number of variables. Action Point will ensure a plan is put in place that delivers the

software system to all users with the minimum of fuss.
