commissioned ComAp Australia to install
a control system in an aggregate loading truck (aggi

process of preparing bitumen (which most Australian roads are
made out of). This machine is designed to pick up aggregate from the
side of the road, load it into its tipper truck and sort the aggregate by size.
Jamieson Engine Pump and Power sought the assistance of ComAp to install
a control system in the aggi loader to make the machine easier to operate, include extra
safety and efficiency measures and have an automated system. The aggi loader is powered

Based in Laupheim in Germany, Uhlmann is one of the

by a ComAp CHP system and generators installed by German
company, AVS. with ComAp’s CHP
The two generators provide a power output of 720 kW and can run on two different gas
types, biogas or natural gas. The biogas is supplied by a nearby bioethanol production plant, Solution

but in the event of a shortage of biogas, the system automatically switches over to use natural
gas – which means that the system is running in bi-fuel mode.

In this specific application we are using InteliSys NT and InteliVision 8, by simply
configuring the integrated PLC to run the generator in bi-fuel mode. Another

advantage of the ComAp system is the extensive data logging which we use for
our maintenance contract to continuously monitor the plant. We have been relying

When you’re entrusted to power and light the prestigious
night race at the 2015 F1 Singapore Grand Prix, control and
reliability are paramount. Genpower Generator were commissioned
by the Grand Prix organisers to provide lighting solutions for the race, and
armed with ComAp control systems they shone the spotlight on the world’s top
drivers over three nights.

The race was illuminated by 24 individual 500-kVA Genpower generators, powering

1,500 special lighting rigs. To control all of this power Genpower’s Managing Director Bahadir Celim
and his experienced events team carefully considered all available systems on the market
and chose the ComAp’s InteliGen NTC BaseBox and InteliVision 8 combination. An event of this
magnitude doesn’t just need lighting. Beyond the track, 12 additional 50-kVA, InteliLite NT AMF 25

the 500-kVA generators were not running during the daytime.

Wind/Diesel Hybrid Power
Generation System Control
Efate, Vanuatu
Vanuatu is a small island nation located
in the South Pacific Ocean. The island’s main
income comes from tourism, and it is noted as being
one of the top holiday destinations in the world.

To generate electricity, the island has two diesel power plants, and the
main one has two large (4 MW each) slow-speed engines. These are most
efficient at high load levels. UNELCO have also installed a 3-MW wind farm and its
output obviously varies greatly from zero to 3 MW. An additional problem is that if the wind
gets too strong, the wind farm automatically shuts down in order to protect itself. This means
that the output goes from 3 MW to zero in 30 seconds which can cause overloads and blackouts
on the island.

In the first phase of the project, ComAp designed a system where four spare 800-kW gen-sets
were upgraded to the InteliGen NTC BaseBox and these run in parallel with the mains in a power
management mode to balance the load variations and wind turbine output. In the second phase,
ComAp also upgraded another six gen-sets at the other power plant to InteliGen (these sets were
hardly used after the first phase of retrofits).

We strike Most of the time one set is running but as the wind drops off other sets will start up through standard
a balance power management. This has allowed the wind energy penetration to be as high as 70% without any

ComAp’s Hybrid control system allows the island of Vanuatu to combine
wind turbines with diesel/coconut oil powered generators, allowing

any need for energy storage.

Hvidovre Hospital is located just outside Copenhagen.

The hospital is one of Denmark’s largest, with over 40,000 patients
admitted each year. It has 35 different departments spread over 300,000
square metres of land. This posed quite a challenge when installing a backup
power system for the hospital complex.

The backup system included five FG Wilson diesel generators, all equipped with
InteliSys NTC BaseBox controllers and InteliVision 8 displays for monitoring and
control. Although the entire backup system was monitored from a control room using
an InteliVision 17Touch, an InteliVision 5 display attached to each generator allowed for
individual monitoring, to ensure the generators were all available for use, should an emergency

Trucks to Mobile Bi-Fuel ComAp has recently been working with United Tractors in Indonesia on a pilot
project to install a new mobile bi-fuel conversion system on their fleet of mining trucks.

Jakarta, Indonesia Installation of ComAp’s innovative bi-fuel solution in a mobile setting presents a great leap
forward in dual-fuel technology due to the specific installation requirements of a mining
truck, but also as far as being able to attach a safe and reliable natural gas source onto
the vehicle.

“ As the mining industry is facing a recessionary climate, we – as the leading supplier

of heavy mining equipment in Indonesia – were seeking alternatives for how to support

our customers and how to significantly reduce their operational costs. Utilising natural
gas as a replacement fuel for diesel was found to be the ideal alternative mainly for
mining trucks, which represent the biggest portion of overall costs for our customers.

InteliDrive controllers are used to control the engines on the crushing machines, as well

The O2 Arena in Prague is one of the leading entertainment facilities in Europe

with a seating capacity of up to 18,000 people. Every year, the O2 Arena hosts

There are two backup gen-sets for the arena. The gen-sets need to operate

To be able to keep all users’ data safe, all mobile operators need a reliable backup power system for their data centres.
The installation for our customer on Hainan Island is no exception. ComAp has also delivered a solution for a local data

configuration allows the interconnection of two mains incomers and two 1,800-kW standby generators through a bus-tie
breaker into a redundant standby system. Various configurations of the site provide flexible distribution of the power from
the mains incomers, or one or both generators to the load feeders. Everything is controlled by ComAp InteliGen NT and
