Satisfaction Exercise
Satisfaction Exercise
1) Why is job satisfaction declining?” If students are working, have them reflect on whether they are “satisfied” with
their own positions. Have them also reflect on the reasons—satisfaction or dissatisfaction. This would also be a
good time to incorporate the theoretical perspective of Herzberg in terms of hygiene factors and motivators. Have
the class consider whether these factors may play a role.
2) Brainstorm with students about situations where they knew workers/employees were unhappy with the company or
their jobs, but still did a reasonably good job. Perhaps have them share insights into their own feelings about their
school, or a particular class they disliked but still tried very hard.
3) Discuss why someone who is unhappy with his/her job might work hard at it and do good work.
4) Why would someone who is happy with his/her job not perform at a higher level than the disgruntled worker?
