requires an area 5 m wide by 3 m deep. If Digico D5 112 E is used this area
will be reduced to 3 m wide by 2 m deep. It is important to keep mix position at
ground level in order not to destroy sight lines or distract the audience
positioned behind the area.

All control equipment should be set up and configured as per designers’

specifications and thoroughly checked and tested in vendors warehouse prior
to delivery to the venue.

Stage

For outdoor shows, here are a few considerations that should be made when
choosing a site.

Structural integrity of the stage, Stage must be capable of supporting a

weatherproof roof with at least a 5-metre overhang of front downstage edge and
weatherproof sides and rear.

If there is a prevailing wind at the time of year when the concert is to be held,
the stage should be sited so the rear of the stage is windward to protect the
musician’s instruments and their sheet music from rain being driven in by the
wind.
Plácido Domingo, technical rider page 8 of 20
dated:

Quite often there will be a rehearsal in the afternoon, if there is direct sunlight
on the stage at this point, the musicians will not bring their instruments on
until there is shade, alternatively rehearsals should be rescheduled to the
evening before or such a time as for there to be no sun on the performance
area.

Generators

Outdoor concerts, when generators are necessary, it is imperative they are

SILENT (the type used on film sets) not so called hush power generators,
commonly acceptable for most outdoor events, if, however, silent generators are
not available, it will be necessary to site them far enough away so they cannot
be heard on the stage or in the auditorium, further baffling may also be
necessary.

Noise

There will be an allocated time, during set up when all other work in
venue/site must cease for sound system optimisation/equalisation,
approximately 2 hours will be required.

During scheduled rehearsal periods at the venue all other work must be
stopped.

House public address, emergency evacuation systems must be silent during

the show, if there are any audible hums or buzzes they will have to be shut
down for the performance.

Scoreboards/video screens, if these have noisy cooling fans, must be turned off
for the entire performance.

Air conditioning/handling. If the systems are too noisy they will have to be
shut down for rehearsals and during the performance, sometimes it will be
necessary to keep the handling on prior to the performance, but programmed
to be turned off at show time and put back on during the intermission, and off
again for the second half of the performance.

Concessions, Bars and food vendors, especially the ones near to the audience,
must make no noise during the performance, if it is outdoors and they are
using small mobile generators they must be turned off at show time.

Lighting. It is important that if moving lights and colour changers are to be

used they should all be chosen for quietness, some moving lights have very
noisy cooling fans and motors, If they are too noisy they will have to be turned
Plácido Domingo, technical rider page 9 of 20
dated:

off.

Follow spots must be positioned in such a way that any cooling fans cannot be
heard by the audience.

If the lighting designer is calling the follow spots from the front of house
position, he or she should try to keep all conversations to a minimum and as
quiet as possible. If not there will be complaints from the public.

Acoustic Treatment

It will be necessary to hang acoustic drape in some of the larger venues, to

minimise audio reflections from roof structures, solid walls, scoreboards and
other reflective surfaces. Outdoor stages may require internal draping,
especially if they are of the ‘orbit’ design.

Speaker Scrims

Outdoor/indoor speaker towers/supports can only be covered with a soft shark

tooth open weave acoustically transparent material They must not be painted
or covered with any banners, unless on the sides of the towers and then only if
they do not interfere with the horizontal coverage of the speakers.

LIGHTS

All lighting equipment including two followspots has to be provided locally.

Please send us an equipment list and lighting plot of the system you intend to
use not later than 1 month before concert date. Light system must be approved
by Artist’s Production Manager. The presenter has to provide and pay a classic-
concert experienced lightdesigner / operator

TV-RECORDING and /or Video-screens

If the show will be recorded, for television the camera positions have to be
proved by Maringo Inc., also the film material. In case of TV-recording and also
if video-screens are used the artists requires a visagist and hairdresser.

POWER REQUIREMENTS

A fully qualified electrician, familiar with the venues power supply must be
present from load in of production, during set up and load out, as well as on all
rehearsals and sound checks and during show. All power must only be
switched with Artist’s Production Managers full approval. Production requires
sound and light to be supplied from separate transformers or generators.
Voltage must be 240 V between phase and neutral and 380 V between phases.
