Unit 6- Whole Number Operations and Number Stories

1. What went well in the lesson? Explain.

Students worked independently as told to do so. They were able to make little to no errors using
the number models in their responses for the math journals. Students listened to Mrs. Byers
explain strategies in the beginning of the lesson, which helped them complete their math journal
practice pages.

2. As I reflect on the lesson, to what extent were the students productively engaged in the work?
How do I know?
The students payed attention to when I reexplained directions after getting into their small
groups. I believe since they look up to me as a student teacher, they are willing to learn and listen
from me. They want my help for their math journals; they are always coming to me with
questions instead of going to the two other teachers in the room.

3. Preparation and research- Was I well prepared? – What could I have done differently?
I believe that I was well prepared for this lesson. My cooperating teachers had all of the supplies
and copies of what the students were to complete. I could have added more to the lesson by
creating another worksheet for students to further practice with.

4. How was your pacing/timing?

Since Mrs. Byers had been introducing the topic, I had not done much “teaching” in the lesson. I
helped further teach my small group, answering their specific questions on how to use the
strategies in their practice pages. Timing for the whole lesson was perfect; they are on a set
schedule to conclude math around 2:30. We had started the lesson once I arrive around 1:40.

5. Assessment – Does my method of assessment measure what I want? How did the class do?
What should I change for next time?
To assess the students, we had checked their responses in the math box practice pages. Most of
the students did well, with little to no errors. For next time, we could have created a “pop” quiz
or mini quiz to test the students to gain more knowledge where every student was currently at,
individually.
6. Did you meet all of your objectives? How do you know?
I did meet all my objectives. Students were able to use number models correctly to complete
their math journal practice pages. I know that I have met the objectives because the math pages
measured how much information they retained from the lesson.

7. If anything, what would you do differently? Explain.

I would have had the students complete another worksheet for further practice, if time prevailed.
Also, I would have had them take a mini quiz on the lesson to measure where each student is at
individually, seeing where they need more help and which steps they need help completing.
