Guidance Office Tour

The misconception about the guidance office or even the personnel inside is somehow vanished
and their importance is now being appreciated especially by those who adheres the strand of Humanities
and Social Science. In my own experience with the tour inside the guidance office in La Salle College
Antipolo, the way I see the room is that it is a combination of the office and house ambiance in which
why there are comfortable-looking chairs and tables and mixed with office cubicles, it’s somehow a
spacey room which is important for clients to be able to feel relaxed as sessions pass by. In counseling
context, the guidance room is the perfect place to talk because of the physical appearance, as well as the
quietness of the room, the temperature inside will definitely be effective.

In counseling, I can think of new ideas on how a session could go that would help improve the
process. One idea of mine would be a meal session prepared inside the room in which the bond between
the counselor and counselee would improve moderately as they enjoy the cooking process, but the eating
time would be the main event of the session as both can talk already while enjoying their meals. Through
this innovative way of counseling process, the efficiency of the counselor would be better and the mood
of the counselee would also improve by the end of the session.

Inside the counseling room, both the counselor and counselee are vital as the two makes up the
procedure. Each person inside the LSCA’s Guidance Office technically has the same job to guide and
help students with his or her studies, and sometimes even those problems that is not related to school, the
only difference is that each counselee handles different grade levels which is logical as each individuals
have different personalities and it may be very difficult for one person to deal with all students.

To end the tour, some questions were entertained by the personnel to increase the knowledge of
the students about counseling and the difference about the AB and BS Psychology. My personal insight
about the tour inside the guidance office is that my decision about applying to the Bachelor of Arts in
Psychology is the right choice as it is my interest in learning more about people’s and society’s issue and
to be able to provide help as well. Through this tour, I was also enlightened about the trials and obstacles
of a counselor.
