THE HUMAN BEHAVIOR AND MY WORKPLACE: A REFLECTION

In my work, I always encounter various people who act and behave in different ways.
During classes, some of my students are well-disciplined and show me respect at all times,
from saying their greetings, reciting in the class, or even in sending to me their concerns.
Other students, I guess since they knew me well, they approach me with happy and smiling
faces, talk to me in a very casual way, and sometimes they laugh with me. Meanwhile at the
faculty room, everybody is busy with their paper works, in preparing for their classes, and on
checking assessments. Work is work in the four corners of our room. We talk about the
problems of our students and parents, the performance tasks we can collaborate with, and
the forms and reports we need to accomplish. Often times, we talk about our families, give
comfort to each other, support each other’s decisions, and plan for some get away.

This workplace I have right now aided me to interact better with the people around
me. This workplace made me understand people even more.

This day-to-day experience, as I am part of an organization or a group of people who

work interdependently toward some purpose, has enabled me to look closely how people
behave, think, or feel inside our organization or what we call Organizational Behavior. This
also helped me work and socialize well with my students, co-teachers, and administrators
because I was able to know what are their thoughts and actions in different situations.

For example, when the school year is near to its end, the administrator will be
requiring the different forms pertinent for the graduation or moving-up of the students.
Therefore, the teachers will have to finish everything before the deadline because the
purpose or goal in everyone’s mind is to help the students move forward in the next level.
The responsibility is kept in each mind though it is a very rigorous task and it requires effort.
In order to accomplish everything properly, they conducted a meeting to inform the teachers
on how to do the forms, the teachers ask guidance from the coordinators and they help one
another.

In Organizational Behavior, it is also important to look at the skills of the people in an

organization which they develop in order to succeed in their field or profession. In the above
example, the teachers were not only observed how they do their work but also how they
relate with other people. It is in Organizational Behavior how people pursue personal growth
and effectiveness.

Hence, studying Organizational Behavior is very vital for organization leaders and
members to develop people skills, to encourage personal growth, to enhance organizational
and individual effectiveness, and to sharpen and refine common sense.
In my workplace, as a member, my understanding of the Organizational Behavior can
be applied to how I work with other people, how I better myself to contribute more to the
organization, how I will harmonize with my school. The fact is, in my workplace, it is not hard
to blend in with the teachers and the students. Actually, when I was asked why I stayed at my
school (OLPC-SMI), I immediately answered “because of the working environment here that
is friendly and conducive.” Thus, as I study this course, I will realize more why I chose to stay
in this school.

For me to be able to understand more the human behavior and organizational

behavior, I will use these methods which I think are convenient, practical, and effective. In
fact, I have used some of these methods as I started my work as a teacher.

After a day of teaching, I use introspection or the “self-observation” and reflect on

the things I have done, if they are correct or if there are better ways to do them. Furthermore,
the observation method is very handy when I am at my classes, when I observe how my
students work, interact with other, react, or make their outputs.

Today, I may use survey method because it will yield information easily among all
my students. I can use the Google forms to survey the large number of my classes to know
them well. Also, if given permission and time, I might use the experiment method, as it is
very effective because it will be supported by credible resources.

In my work, human behavior is very evident and crucial. Every action, behavior,
emotion, and word are important. Organizational behavior requires a lot of work. However, if
this leads to a healthier working place, I won’t think twice to delve in it.
