COMMENTS ON THE COMPRESSOR SHELTER

1. Stanchions spacing are greater than 6m where Zed purlins are going to
be used as the stock length of Zed purlins is 6m. It is usually good to avoid
a situation where Zed purlins are being joined as would have been for this
structure if we had used Zed purlins.
2. Five equal spans of 5.438m (total spans = 27.19m) would have been better
adopted for this structure. This would have reduced the members
selections for all elements and hence a cheaper and more stable
structure
3. The 230mm x 350 mm stub column for the base type 2 -FT2, is slender. We
suggest that it should be increased to 400mm x 400 to properly
accommodate the holding down bolts while the base plate remains as
230 x 350mm
4. Base plate thickness needs to be clearly specified- We have 25mm thick
on the page with foundation details while we have 20mm thick on the
page with steel typical details. We need to know which thickness we are
actually using for the base plate size 500mm x 1200mm
5. Stub column levels in relation to the outside and inside of the compressor
enclosure need to be clearly indicated on the foundation drawings
6. Considering the size of the stanchion member – HEA 450 and the rafters -
IPE 550 and the contribution of roof members – IPE 270, bracing members
– HEA 220 as well as effect of wind load on the structure due to its height
and the 5 tons gantry effect, we suggest that additional four (4) bolts
should be included. That means each base plate should carry 8 Nos
20mm dia. Bolts instead of the present 4 Nos.
7. The size and spacing of the purlin members – IPE 270 may not be
convenient if the roof covering is aluminum. The internal spacing of 1750
mm and end spacing of 1400mm are too wide to avoid sagging of the
aluminum sheets. There will no problem if we are using other roofing
materials not mentioned in this drawing. We need specification for it. If we
are using aluminum covering, we suggest that a secondary line of purlins
should be introduced to break the gap of 1750mm into two to ensure the
stability of the covering against the effect of wind. Angle irons can be
used for this purpose. The alternative is to use smaller members at closer
spacing.
8. The smaller stanchions are specified as HEA 200 A and HEA 220. Let us
know which one you specifying for the four stanchion positions
9. The stanchion height from the base plate to the roof need to be clearly
dimensioned
10. The gantry height with respect to the base plate or floor need to be
clearly dimensioned
11. The drawings pages or sheets should be properly numbered for reference
purpose. Right now, all pages are carrying “Sheet 1 of 1”
12. Check all connection plates for proper dimensioning especially at the
ridge haunch
13. The closest purlin to the ridge is 600mm from each end giving a girth of
over 1200mm. Aluminum sheets will not cover this knowing that the width
is exactly 1200mm from the factory. Purlins should be adjusted to 200mm
from each end to give a girth of 400mm for proper ridge stability
