Dome #5 BY MTL. Contents f Purpose of test 2 Loads to be applied 3 Test procedure 3.1 Measurement of deflection under load 32 Loading 3.3. Inspection during testing 4 Recording of results and reporting 5 ‘Test criteria 6 Health and safety 1 Purpose of test The purpose of the test is to demonstrate the design ultimate load capacity of one Dome sector ic. at ultimate limit state (ULS). Based on our site visit it has been decided to test the GRG. Dome #5 by using the design ultimate load. It is recognised that such testing would impair subsequent performance of the ‘element. ‘The test will therefore be carried out on a selected sector element from the existing dome the test is not distractive test. 2 Loads to be applied Dome 45 is a decorative Dome were assembled with 18 sectors of GRG. Glass reinforced fibres Gypsum suspended on stainless steel sockets and porchones supported and fixed on steel structure sub frames. The most cri the own weight of the dome the steel sub frame are locate in narrow distance behind the GRG. Dome will not give any space or opportunity for the live loads to Be applied at the GRG. Sectors, accordingly we base cur load test computation on the equivalent dead for the dome shell for 25mm thickness. © The specific weight of the GRG. Material is 1400 kg/m3 ® The shell loads are as the following: ® Dead load 35 ke/m2 ¢ Design ultimate (ULS) load 49 kg/m 3 Test procedure ‘The Dome having 17 m diameter and almost high of 5.9 at the Crown Point as mentioned above the space between the GRG. And the steel sub frame are very narrow than we decide to fill sand bags and apply it in the narrow space with equivalent load of 50 kg/m2. ‘We are going to select one from the 18 sector frames of the dome, at first visual inspection for the existing GRG. Sector will be performed and will be record it by photos in the report. ‘The area of one sector will be about 15 m2 the total required sand load for the test of the selector sector will be 525 kg required to test the GRG. Sector in service loads, and additional 275 kg sand load for the ULS test with total 800 kg of sand will be used. Refer to the provided sketches for dome sector and some other details for dome. 31 Measurement of deflection under load Measurements of deflections will as the following: © Deflections under dead load and full service load AVAILABLE SPACE © Deflection under full ULS load and residual deflection when unloaded, A set of 3 LVDTS (linear variable deferential transformers) will be placed on the scaffolding directly under the area subjected to the load before starting the load process. (Note: avoid any movement or vibrations at scaffolding to ensure that the measurement process is not disturbed). The LVDTs will measure and record any deflection occurred during the test period. 3.1 Optical levelling The opt datum poi al levelling method shall reference to two independent stable datum points. The 's should be selected so as to allow readings of both from a single set up position for level readings. A scale attached to the locations being levelled may be used. The equipment and scale shall enable readings within an accuracy of 0.2mm. 3.2 Loading Measurements of deflections of loading will be measure by using Data loggers attached to ‘The LVDTs will take the reading every 30 minutes. This process will last for one day only 53 Inspection during testing The sector under test is to be inspected and its condition is to be recorded before testing ‘commences. All sector present are to be measured and their location recorded on a drawing of the dome sector together with crack widths In case any appearance, similar inspection and recording shall be carried out at each cycle of load and unloads to full service load. Similar inspection and recording shall be carried out at design ultimate load and after complete unload. 4 Recording of results and reporting During the progress of the test, all measurements taken shall be available for inspection. Results shall be presented as follows: a) Preliminary copy of test records shail be prepared within 24 hours of completion of the test. This shall show for each cycle and stage of loading, the period for which the full load was heid and the maximum movement at the end of each stage. b) Formal report presenting results as above presented in tabular form ~load versus deflection ( results for optical levelling shall show measured movements and deflection corrected for the rotation of the support system), together with © Loads applied Plan and details of test arrangement © Method of measurement © Calibration readings © Temperature records. @ Photos after and before test. 5 Test criteria ‘The purpose of the testis to demonstrate that the design ultimate capacity is achieved. 6 Health and safety Around the test rig, a five meter cordon will be maintained to prohibit access during the test All pressurised equipment to be used and monitored by a trained operator. All pressure lines to be securely attached Nobody to enter the 5m cordon until the site structural engineer has deemed to be safe,
