1.0 Objective

The objective of generating this method statement is to ensure that the procedure
step by step to implement the correct practices for welding at fabrication yard
and/or project site.

2.0 Scope of Work

This procedure is issued to describe the work processes involved in construction for
welder and welding qualification procedures. The latest revision of the PROJECT
specifications shall be used as references and is part of this Method Statement in the
execution of work.

4.0 Safety Requirements

4.1 All safety precautions required shall be fully implemented and observed
during work execution.
4.2 Only authorized and designated personnel shall conduct and complete
the work as required.
4.3 All signboards, barricades and warning signs shall be posted and
Maintained in the working areas as required.
4.4 Personnel protective equipment (PPE) shall be provided and used at all
the time.
4.5 Safe entry and exit access shall be provided and always free from any
obstructions at all times.

5.0 Key Personnel Duties and Responsibilities

5.1 The Project Manager is the over-all in-charge for the implementation of
this procedure and ensures that his team is aware of this Method
Statement. He should also ensure that all resources needed in the work
execution shall be available and carry out the work as planned without
delays and in a safe manner and in compliance with EPC HSSEMP
requirements.
5.2 The Site Manager is responsible in the coordination with site supervisor
and foremen for a safe and proper execution of the works.
5.3 Site Engineer and General F/M are directly reporting to the Site
Manager. They should ensure that the works are carried out in
accordance with the approved drawings, applicable standards and this
Method of Statement.
5.4 QC Inspector in close coordination with site personnel shall ensure that
the works are carried out based from the QC project requirements. He is
responsible in conducting and monitoring QC inspection works.
Additionally, he shall ensure that all pertinent QC documentations and
records are prepared and ready for approval.
5.5 Safety Officer is responsible in monitoring the full implementation of all
safety procedures and safety measures at site at all times.
Communication with the Safety Representative is also part of his
responsibility.
5.6 The safety officer to coordinate with EPC HSSE representative for all
matters relevant to EPC HSSEMP requirements.

6.0 Job Safety Analysis


6.1 Ensure that the operator is wearing full PPE’s.
6.2 Ensure that light is available.
6.3 Ensure proper scaffolding and harness are provided during working at
heights (if any)

6.4 Barricades should be placed where the activity is ongoing.

7.0 Work Procedure


7.1 Bring all bolts to snug-tight position. Snug tightening shall progress
systematically from most rigid part of the connection to the free edges.
7.2 This procedure shall be repeated in a similar manner as necessary until
all bolts are brought to snug tight position.
7.3 The above snug position can be achieved by manual operation using an
ordinary spud wrench.
7.4 In this case, full effort of a man using an ordinary spud wrench would
bring the bolt to a snug tight position.
7.5 No wrench extension of long wrenches should be used to bring blot to
snug tight position in order to avoid over-tensioning.
7.6 The normal spud wrench is usually 12 inches long, or an impact wrench
will be used for next activity.
7.7 Once the snug tight is achieved and marked using marker pen on the nut
and steel surface.
7.8 One third (1/3) turn identification and then it shall be carried out as per
the method given in the specifications for the structural joints using
ASTM A 325 bolts.
7.9 By using an impact wrench, all bolts should be tightened to reach a
torque value close enough to the recommended value by the bolt’s
manufacturer
7.10 Torque wrench shall be used with the bolt manufacturer torque values
for ASTM A 325 bolts.
7.11 All bolts to be checked using torque wrench and marked when reaches
the recommended torque value.

8.1 RFI will be initiated for inspections of bolting, as per approved ITP,
Quality Control Plan and Project Specification listed under Technical
Specification or as stated on the latest IFC drawings.

All tools and equipment must be checked, inspected, certified and


stickered by EPC HSE department.
All power tolls used in this project will be logged in register and
submitted to EPC HSE department
