To whom it may concern,

My thesis included multiple performances of the musical I wrote called Adi-Antham.

There are multiple rehearsals involved in this process with a six person cast. The costs

associated with this project are three fold. The first expense is rental costs associated with a

concert we were going to mount in April. Due to the recent developments because of the

coronavirus, we have had to cancel that concert. We are hoping that the thesis funding will

help us recoup the costs we lost from that down payment.

Due to the nature of the project, we are constantly printing scripts and music for

rehearsals. However, we make edits every time we are in rehearsal and need fresh copies for

the next rehearsal. The main cost incurred from this thesis was for printing these scripts and

musical scores for the benefit of the cast members.

The second main cost associated with this thesis was for dramaturgical purposes.

Dramaturgy is the study of dramatic composition and the representation of main elements of

drama on the stage. The show is centered around an Indian-American family and their

version of Thanksgiving. I feel that it is a necessary and essential part of the developmental

process to understand the kinds of foods that are referenced in the show because it is an

integral part of the show. We will be having food at one of our rehearsals for the cast to

immerse themselves in the culinary and cultural practices of this specific Indian-American

family. This will probably be a significant cost but will also be going to benefit a local small

business which has been a staple of the Tempe community for over a decade.

I am very grateful for Barrett and their thesis funding for making this a reality.

Creating art is not only difficult but also expensive and without resources such as this one,

artists like myself could not be able to create new work. I have been working on this show for

the past eighteen months and I could not have made it a reality without the opportunity to
make it into my honors thesis and thanks to this thesis fund. I hope to hear back very soon

and again, thank you so much.

Sincerely,

Vaibhavi Mohan
