Post Mother hallucination. There is a knock at the door and YAMUNA snaps out of her reverie.

She rears her head up towards the door. Lights come up on the other side revealing NEEL, her
former romantic partner. NEEL keeps knocking but YAMUNA does not answer.

YAMUNA tries to move from her bed but is unable to. She is plagued with pain and guilt.

YAMUNA tries to move again. The BLOOD CHORUS is heard humming in the background.

The BLOOD CHORUS begins by chanting these words as she begins noticing that she is
spotting.

BLOOD CHORUS

NĀSTI MĀTR̥SAMĀ CHHĀYĀ NĀSTI MĀTR̥SAMĀ GATIḤ.

NĀSTI MĀTR̥SAMAṀ TRĀṆAṀ NĀSTI MATR̥SAMĀ PRAPĀ.

Translation: There is no shelter like a mother. No place like a mother. No protection like a
mother. No water house like a mother.

YAMUNA begins to experience pain as she has never experienced before. Her body is
broken and actively rejecting the new life that is growing inside of her. She is trying to
crawl out of her bed. She begins gasping and crying out as she begins spotting. She
rolls out of her bed and NEEL hears her struggling on the other side of the door. NEEL
tries to open the door but it is locked. He panics and begins trying to break down the
door. As YAMUNA continues to struggle, she bleeds more and more. The blood is not
just coming from her body but from everywhere. The BLOOD CHORUS appears and
begins singing the following lyrics.

O Kalinda Nandini (Daughter of the Kalinda Mountain), Please Wash away the impurities from my
Mind, Always,

The youngest member of the BLOOD CHORUS steps forward and runs around stage,
miming the motions of playing a children’s game (ie tag or patty-cake). She does not
even notice that there is someone bleeding out in front of her. This is YAMUNA’s
hallucination of her unborn child who will no longer exist. NEEL breaks down the door
and is stunned by the blood in front of him. He sees YAMUNA losing consciousness and
goes to hold her. YAMUNA barely opens her eyes and registers him.

YAMUNA

I’m sorry.
YAMUNA loses consciousness and dies. NEEL is still holding her body. The rest of the
BLOOD CHORUS take off their outer covering, revealing a stark white chemise. They
dip their hands into the blood and begin bathing in it. They smile as they do this.
