Extra vocabulary teaching notes

Extra vocabulary
The purpose of the Extra vocabulary worksheets is to
increase language load for pupils who are interested or
who need an extra challenge. The worksheets can be set
as homework.
The activities are all heads-down and pupils can work
individually. If there are some pupils who are struggling in
class, you can easily give the rest of the class these
worksheets, allowing you to work with the less-able pupils
one-to-one.
Reading is not necessary but the words are labelled each
time as a record.
1 Photocopy enough copies for each pupil.
2 Refer pupils to the Class Book Lesson 1 pages for that
particular unit and ask them to point out the extra
language again.
3 Model the words for the children as they point.
4 When pupils have finished, you can ask them to point
to each item and say it.

Unit 1
1 Draw and say.
Pupils draw the missing details in the four posters. They
then say each of the words.

Unit 2
1 Draw and say.
Pupils draw the other half of the pumpkin face. They then
say each of the words.

Unit 3
1 Draw and say.
Pupils draw the missing clothes on the two children in the
main picture, referring to the pictures above and below
the main picture. They then say each of the words.

Unit 4
1 Draw and say.
Pupils look at the sequence of toys and work out the
pattern. They draw the next toy in the sequence. They
then say each of the words.

Unit 5
1 Draw and say.
Pupils draw the missing animals in the farm and jungle
scenes, referring to the pictures above. They then say
each of the words.

Unit 6
1 Read and colour. Say.
Pupils read the sentences below and colour in the food
items in the main picture accordingly. They then say each
of the words.
